What travellers are saying
- shnpanBirmingham, AL1,011 contributionsThis place is hard to find as it is on a small country road and there is no sign at the entrance. It is filled with old airplanes and engines. There was no guide on duty when we visited so we didn't get to hear about anything but there are signs explaining the various exhibits.Written 6 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jane YGalena, United States30 contributionsWe certainly enjoyed the Jim Curry/John Denver concert at the Convention and Visitors Bureau! And it is a lovely venue!Written 5 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Daniel BCedar Rapids361 contributionsI tell ya', the people of Ottumwa are blessed. This park is somewhat bigger than Rock Bluff(by about 300 acres) but as it is bigger the views here are still defining; nice river view of the Des Moines river that runs through town. This park has more woods; more trails; and a restored prairie. Bigger parking area too. Only caveat I saw was that it sits on the edge of town. The state highways of 34 and 63 meet near the park so the noise can be loud at times. You can hunt here so always check with the DNR to find out what season it is. Come and see for yourself just what I am talking about because in my opinion this park is worth a look.Written 27 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel BCedar Rapids361 contributionsI have stated many times recently that I have hiked all the state parks in Iowa. I have also discovered, recently, that many local or even county parks in Iowa deserve some recognition as being right up there with the state parks as far as much-needed funding and maintenance as well. Parks or preserves or even Nature areas(like this one) are parks to be enjoyed by everyone. I was really impressed by what I saw here that day in June when I visited here. Its just over 730 acres; the campground here accepts reservations only; they have flush and pit toilets(watch out for the wasps!) my favorite-hiking trails; a small pond for fishing; a Nature center(that wasn't open the day I was there); cross country skiing in winter; picnic areas; and places for the handicapped. Parking is everywhere and some places are wheelchair accessible. I didn't see any place for hunters here so check with the DNR just to make sure. Whenever I first go into a park I always circumnavigate the entire park first just to get my bearings. This place is a nice drive. I saw a few guys out there throwing the disc golf; other than that it was just me there. Granted the day I visited it was in the 90s and humid so I accept the fact that I love days like that and most people would rather stay indoors in the AC than venture outside, even to a nice park like this. The location here can't be beat: its right off US Highway 63. Just follow the signs like I did and it will take you there directly. This was my last stop in this county before heading south. In my opinion, this place is impressive.Written 29 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Deborah S11 contributionsThis used to be a nice hidden gem of a county park. Had river access and place to fish. Wish county would put a small boat ramp back in so it could provide access for fishing and kayaking.Written 2 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Iowa_Gypsy_GirlOttumwa, IA12 contributionsThis is a well manicured, 18-hole municipal golf course with practice range, snack bar, and a pro shop. I would highly recommend and plan to return again this summer!Written 29 January 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
