We were in Lawrence for the night and decided to stop here for a look. You can’t go inside the buildings but can look in the windows and read the info boards outside. They have the historical stories and photos of the Chinese settlement in the gold rush the era around Lawrence. We have driven past many times but have never stopped so glad we have now. A credit to all that have been involved.

We had the pleasure of riding out on this horse trek, absolutely fantastic experience and very well behaved horses. The views were stunning and so beautiful, our wee hut was brilliant. Genevieve was a awesome trek guide and host. A huge thank you to Genevieve and her family, also to grandma for the lovely scones. We all throughly enjoyed it. We will definitely be back.

We passed through en route between Dunedin and Queenstown, and popped in to see what was on offer. As Europeans, Belgian chocolate is not too exotic for us, but always yummy. So we bought 2 hazelnut chocolate brownies for next day’s dessert ( passing up a lovely array of fruit/creme patisserie fruit tartlets that looked divine!). When we ate them next evening, lightly warmed in the oven, they proved to be utterly delicious - light but with that satisfying chocolatey gooiness you want n a brownie. Yum, yum, yum. Make sure you pop in to this lovely little shop - the owner/baker is a delight and so is her baking/confectionery - she does beautiful take-away picnic baskets if you’re cycling the Central Otago Trail. Really - total gem, try it!!

Really interesting place to visit - either stay in the main area, read the information boards and have a picnic lunch, or walk the loop with lots of interesting parts to see, more signs to read and great views.
