- Casey BSalem, IL261 contributionsExcellent place to spend a good couple hours. Have several activities for little ones in addition to the jr ranger book. Your of house is done with a ranger only who was excellent and provided a lot of information. - TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, MN3,477 contributionsHistorically important building with beautiful architecture. Constructed between 1839 and 1862. One of the most famous trials to take place here was the original Dred Scott case during which the enslaved Dred Scott and his wife Harriet sued and won their freedom only for the decision to be eventually overturned by the US Supreme Court that declared that slaves are property and hold no rights to sue. This decision flamed the fires that brought on the Civil War. Easy to visit as it is located near the Gateway Arch and is part of the Gateway Arch National Park. It is easy to photograph from the grounds near the Arch. However, the Old Courthouse can only be experienced from the outside at this time as it undergoes renovations inside.Written 6 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 6edith7Oklahoma632 contributionsIt was our first visit, so we didn’t know what to expect. They had restaurants, the aquarium, a Ferris wheel, above ground ropes course and lots of activities for kids. Since us ladies had no kids, we felt like our options were limited. We ended up walking around, riding the Ferris wheel and then leaving.
We might have gone to the aquarium, but there were 2 long lines, and we didn’t see them move in the 20 minutes we were observing from the 2nd floor.
If you stay all day, parking is kind of expensive. We paid $4 parking since we didn’t stay long. The Ferris wheel cost around $19/pp.Written 3 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mike HSaint Louis, MO57 contributionsThe museum and site are fine, given the dearth of information about Joplin's time in St. Louis. The highlight of the visit is definitely a performance of ragtime music by a young musician named Royce, whose interpretations of ragtime music actually improved on the versions of Joplin's famous rags you may be familiar with.Written 11 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - L1683GIsallybBrooklyn, NY7 contributionsTodd and Lynn were wonderful - they went out of their way explaining the story of this beautiful historic house and how it was saved. Donations and volunteers are greatly needed for the restoration but it was definitely worth going to see.Written 9 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Curiosity544722Saint Louis, MO1 contributionOur family of 12 ranging in age from 15 to 81 arranged a private tour with Shelley over the Christmas holiday. Every one of us enjoyed the visit. Shelley has done an amazing job of rehabbing this beautiful mansion bringing it back to the splendor of the early 1900’s. They just don’t build them like that anymore. The workmanship is remarkable.
Shelley is a fabulous guide. She is full of fun stories about how she has accomplished the job of rehabbing and personal stories as well. This tour is well worth the visit.Written 29 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Half the reason we walked the city is for photos (the other half was to find BBQ). This was one of the stops I wanted to make.Written 27 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Louis FAltus, OK1,025 contributionsReally cool fort with a few miles of trails. You have to check in with security on your way in but it only takes a second.
