My partner and I had an unforgettable experience during our visit to Red River, New Mexico, starting with our exploration of the Enchanted Forest. We opted for the guided snowshoe hike and were fortunate to have Shane, affectionately known as 'Chain,' as our guide.

Shane's extensive knowledge and warm demeanor truly enhanced our adventure. His insights into the area's history and the forest's natural wonders enriched our understanding and appreciation of the surroundings. Shane's enthusiasm was infectious, making the tour one of the highlights of our trip.

Following the guided tour, we decided to rent cross-country skis and further explore the area. It was exhilarating to engage in a new activity, and Shane graciously provided us with a quick and complimentary lesson before we embarked on our adventure. His patience and encouragement were greatly appreciated, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to our experience.

A long, steep bumpy trail led us to a beautiful view of goose lake hidden in the mountains above Red River. WORTH IT!

This was a nice pleasant hike following the creek up the canyon. I hiked about 3.5 miles up the trail before turning around. After awhile there is no more bridges and and you do have to start hoping the rocks to cross the creek, but it is not difficult.

We accessed Wheeler from the east side through Lost Lake Trail. I would highly recommend this approach. I've done Bull of the Woods Trail and the trail from Williams Lake. Lost Lake trail is not as long as Bull of the Woods and not as continually steep as Williams Lake trail. We did stop and set up camp at Lost Lake, breaking up the hike into 2 days. We had some awesome views along with lots of Bighorn sheep in the meadow just below Wheeler. The trail is well marked and maintained.

Tough hike, but worth it in the end! Take snacks and lots of water and sit awhile at the lake to take in all of the beauty around you!

Beautiful pure white snow and the bluest sky I’ve ever seen. Married there on snow mobiles Dec. 18, 1990 by Cliff Johnson. Sweetest man ever.

I have always loved Kenneth Wyatt's artwork. The gallery is a lovely place to visit and well laid out to spend some time viewing the art. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I was blessed to be able to view so much of Mr. Wyatt's work in one place. Well located and easy to find.

We did this hike after forking off the Middle Fork Trail. Beauty everywhere. It is a good climb up, then a walk around the ridge line. Really pretty. This is not for someone who is not in shape though, so be able to hike for 5 hours up and back

Nice trail for all skill levels. After paying 5 dollar day use fee, find mile marker 292, park and walk behind guard rail just a bit to find start of this out and back trail.

It's not your typical country music. It's the old time ballads/tunes like Marty Robbins. C&W. The barbecue brisket and buffet of fixings was top notch and the cobbler and ice cream was worthy of second helpings. Michael MM was not only true to his songs and vocals, but he was very interesting in telling the stories about the songs he would sing or the artists who sang them. We will definitely go back next time we're in Red River.
Don;t trust your GPS address. Once on Bitter Creek Rd, go all the way to the end and drive slowly. It's further than it looks.

This has to be a must place for you to see while in Red River. Very pretty sights year round, especially in early fall.

We visited Horseshoe Lake on our way down from Wheeler Peak. The lake was crystal clear and beautiful. While eating lunch on the shore of the lake, our party was visited by a group of Big Horn Sheep who tried to eat our peanut butter from the jar while we were taking pictures. This is a wonderful lake, but be prepared for a long challenging hike!
