What travellers are saying
- BethAnn01104 contributionsExcellent hiking, good campground. The trails are what you would expect in the region--well maintained, clearly blazed/marked. We stayed in the campground: sites are small but well-wooded for privacy, bathrooms are acceptable but not great. Bear boxes are provided at each campsite, which is very convenient and improves safety.Written 8 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Darren BCourtland, VA513 contributionsMake a big splash with your family, and put this stop on your bucket list. You've got to stop here on a hot summer day and enjoy sliding down this 75 ft long natural waterfall in a cool mountain stream.
The pool at the bottom is 10 ft deep and has trout swimming in it, too.

There's also stairs where you can get a closer look, but the lookout gives a pretty grand view by itself, if you're unable to climb the stairs.Written 19 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kristen BBailey, NC151 contributionsWe came here on the last day of the season. Wasn’t crowded. The movie was very good and provided a lot of great information. The walking trails are paved and about a mile. Enjoyed the trip. Would recommend.Written 13 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stacey KEllicott City, MD19 contributionsAbsolutely beautiful view. It was like looking at an ocean of trees. This was definitely the best hike we did in Asheville.Written 2 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Subteach10Asheville, NC354 contributionsThis is a short hike (less than 30 minutes up) that is uphill but on a well maintained path. The forest surrounding the path are stunning. The views at the top are worth any elevation gain.Written 16 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - havefunawayCrescent Springs, KY269 contributionsVery nice building on your way to waterfall hiking in the forest. Rangers were very helpful to campers who were experiencing an unusual cold snap. We were not campers but did have hiking questions which were knowledgeably answered. They do have shirts and sweatshirts and various "visitor center" items available for sale and lots of pamphlets for the hikers in the area. The restrooms were open clean and available before hitting the trails. We really enjoy this area.Written 4 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mike ETampa, FL594 contributionsWow! Perhaps the best tacos I have ever had! Their jerk chicken is amazing. Their home made hot sauces are delicious. Hot for sure and full of flavors. The beers were also really good. What a friendly group of people. I love their support of the cycling community. I HAVE to go back!Written 13 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Bowmanator22Charlotte, NC5,024 contributionsGravel road to trailhead. Nobody there on a Saturday at 8:45 am. We had the whole place to ourselves. Relatively easy hike, but incredible falls!Written 8 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tony NSupply, NC21 contributionsThe view from the 6,030 ft. summit of Cold Mountain is worth the 5.3 mi. one-way hike. The summit is not too easy to find. I almost missed the survey marker at the peak. Once you arrive, step out onto the ledge from between the brush and bushes, and you will see layer upon layer of mountain ridges stretching out before you. During my August visit, there were wildflowers near the summit which had attracted many butterflies and bees. At one point, I had butterflies and bees swarming above my head, and to top it all off, a hummingbird flew overhead. The trail is not an easy one. It is "paved" almost entirely with rock which can, of course, be slippery when wet. Also, I actually stepped off the trail twice on my descent and had to backtrack to a point find the actual trail. There are no signs to point you in the right direction. Be mindful of where you make turns on the ascent. The difficulty level for me would be about 5/5, but I am sure a much fitter hiker would not find this trail much more than a 3/5. Just allow for about 6 hours round trip. Happy hiking!Written 19 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- F9612TXmichaelwSt. Augustine, FL19 contributionsThis is probably as you would expect for a state or federal run place. It’s clean and well organized. It has information about the local wildlife and wilderness. It can help fill in the blanks that google just can’t. They have maps and current regulations that can save you time and headaches. The people are friendly and know their stuff. They can help you turn a good experience into a great one.Written 7 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Subteach10Asheville, NC354 contributionsThis is an easy hike (although longer than most easy hikes). Since it is in a wet county it will be muddy so be prepared. The forests are beautiful and you have several water front areas as well.Written 16 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - wohdonkeyNewark, OH1,982 contributionsWe parked at the of the road near a gated entrance in a small parking area. We had about a 1 mile round trip hike to the falls. It was a pretty easy hike and we really enjoyed the falls since it was only my husband and I there at the time. It was a nice peaceful spot to hang out after a short hike.Written 1 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cynthia NDaphne, AL56 contributionsBeautiful large waterfall in secluded location, definitely off the beaten path. The trail is not marked very well but there is a narrow path up to the fall. May be a difficult walk for the elderly and certain disabilities as it is steep and slippery in places. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to check off another waterfall on their bucket list. This one's a beauty!Written 7 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
