What travellers are saying
- ccriderYVRVancouver, Canada4,573 contributionsLocated on the north end of Gabriola Island. If you are in Nanaimo, it's worth a visit. It is not too far from the ferry terminal. 5 min drive if you have a car, 30 mins walking or 10 min on a bike. We had our bikes and walking on with them was easy.
The access is at the end of a dead end in a residential neighborhood. The formation juts out and the views are amazing. Depending on the tide, you can go in for a swim, although there is a lot of sea weed and sharp rocks, mussels and barnacles on the rocks. Recommend water shoes if you do go in.
There is a beach that is better for swimming a few minute walk along the shoreline to Gabriola Sands Park in Taylor Bay. Not much in terms of facilities so bring food, water.Written 31 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GinnyKelownaMarco Island, FL846 contributionsOne of the most beautiful spots on the island, stunning views all around. The access is over an uneven narrow gravel road with wasboard surface areas. Parking and access is adequate. This is a good place for a swim as well.Written 8 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Richard NGabriola Island, Canada9 contributionsA group of us took at trip over to Pirate's cove this summer for a day walk around the land portion of the park. What a beautiful spot, and the beach on the south-side facing Ruxton/De-Courcey and points further south was great.Written 7 December 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GinnyKelownaMarco Island, FL846 contributionsA magical west coastal bay meets rainforest area, a few nice short walks by the waters' edge to explore and enjoy the crystal clear water marine life. Some incline hiking required. There is ample parking.Written 5 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ArcosdadComox Valley, Canada5,241 contributionswhat a great spot this is. A lovely strand of dark sand beach facing east. Ample shade or sun if you want by noon. Outhouses at the bottom. The only potential downside is the 10 minute walk in which has a steep bit coming back from the beach...good workout and young (or old) fit people will not even notice it. Lots of logs along Lock Bay so you can find a quiet spot if you wish. There is a nice little steep trail to a quiet beach with pools which is not far from the parking lot which is closed due to "facility failure", parkspeak for "something gave way and we aren't going to fix it." Shameful that a simple soil slump or broken step cannot be fixed. There is NO excuse for our parks not to be at 100% during the busy summer season.Written 6 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jane7 contributionsVery cute little museum. Had a very unique exhibit on the hippie history of gabriola. I did feel that the cultural history of the local indigenous people did not have enough attention. It would’ve been interesting to have more information about the current experience for local indigenous peoples on the island.Written 9 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alexredlyfeToronto, Canada3 contributionsI can't believe how few people wrote reviews for this beautiful place. It has some of the oldest and largest trees and 1 tree in particular is the king (or queen).

I have 4 of his large prints which capture so much personality and spirituality in his portraits and mountainscapes. I have sent many of his cards as special thoughts to dear friends. All commented on the depth of feeling and photo-artistry in these little gifts.
It is a pleasure to visit his home workshop/studio/ gallery in a lovely secluded spot amongst the tall evergreens of Gabriola.
Tourists to Gabriola should seek him out for very pleasant gazing!Written 8 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The office opened a little bit late, but once we were able to get a map, the employee was really helpful in letting us know what points she thought would be of interest to see on our bikes, that were not too hilly, as Gabriola was our fourth island, and they are all really hilly to bike. We were looking for something flatter, so Orlebar Point was our out and back route.Written 8 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CanmoreTravellerCanmore, Canada130 contributionsNot sure if tourists are able to get to this island to explore the lighthouse. We saw the lighthouse when we visited Orlebar Point on Gabriola. Took some pictures, explored the coast line.Written 8 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- spiinyynormanGabriola Island, Canada95 contributionsWe have been fortunate enough to see several musical performances at this venue over the last few months. They have had quite a selection of talented artists in a wonderfully intimate little setting. Great acoustics, and a small stage that really highlights each performance.
It's definitely worth a visit for the music.Written 26 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
