What travellers are saying
- christinahj13Leeds, UK48 contributionsGreat for a visit to see the well and cave if you haven’t been before. The history of the place is fascinating and magical. We had a pram which you could bring in but had to leave it at the pram parking to go down to the well and cave. The cafe area looks like a great picnic spot for lunch and there’s a children’s play area. It’s perhaps a little bit pricey at £6 each for pedestrians but appreciate that they need to maintain the area. 1-2 hours suggested duration is about right. We parked elsewhere so we could explore Knaresborough.Written 18 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul WWinchester, UK5 contributionsThe view over the River Nid is spectacular, great to walk along the river. The park next to the castle offer fantastic views over the viaduct and river.Written 8 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - julie bNewcastle upon Tyne, UK35 contributionsBeautiful Walk . We came down the steps from the castle , turned left and walked along the river . If we had more time we could have done a circular walk. It’s so pretty and we really enjoyed the atmosphere of everyone walking along enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful surroundings.Written 3 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lingcong MCoventry, UK1 contributionWe wanted to express our deepest gratitude to Sophie and Zoe for making our wedding at Allerton Castle in September 2022 absolutely incredible. Thanks to your exceptional wedding planning skills, our special day felt like a fairy tale come true.
Allerton Castle itself is a perfect wedding venue, and your attention to detail and dedication to our event made it even more special. We were thrilled to have exclusive use of the castle, and the luxurious palace suite for our wedding night was a dream. The billiard room provided a relaxing pre-ceremony space, and the great hall was a fantastic setting for drinks and dancing.
The wedding breakfast was exquisite, and the memorial garden provided a picturesque backdrop for our photography. The food for the night dancing was also a big hit with our guests.
Thanks to your hard work and expertise, our wedding was truly magical, surrounded by our cherished family and friends. We will forever be grateful for your role in making our day unforgettable.Written 23 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A hidden gem and well looked afterWritten 24 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TarndySheffield, UK496 contributionsWhat an amazing spectacle - the history simply oozes out of the structure. You can walk right under it or walk up to one of the most attractive train stations I've ever seen just at the end of the viaduct with a traditional level crossing which is automatically locked when trains come & go (of which there were plenty). An engineering marvel.Written 15 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Nic SLondon, UK14 contributionsVery beautiful and calm. Lots of birds including swans. Fun scrambling up the rocks. It is a sunny day today, it is probably less fun here in the rain or mudWritten 7 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ludwik D341 contributionsToday I visited the two day Knaresborough Christmas market.
Very crowded, they had a brass band playing and the town crier was there in his uniform and bell.
Overall an enjoyable day out, but not really very Christmasy, more like the normal market just at Christmas time.
The streets around the place were doing a brisk business with all the tourists. The place is very dog friendly, I've never seen so many dogs in a market.
Some unusual sights, a butchers shop with 20 or 30 dead pheasants hanging up outside.
Note, this is NOT a German or European market. It's a traditional English one.
I arrived and left by train, the train station is well maintained and classy, with a bar, antique shop etc. I felt like in a time warp, 2022 or is it 1922?Written 3 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's a really quirky little chapel that is only open limited times.
Worth a visit for it's uniqueness.Written 8 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Apparently it's a busy place when there's a market and the people can sit on the base steps. Around are a few benches with two statues. Nice place to rest a little bit and make a few photos or to talk with locals like we did.Written 12 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bjulieb113Bridlington, UK89 contributionsWent to see “it’s a fair cop” with Alfie and it was excellent. A was a full house and the first time I had seen or heard of him - it was our friends recommendation. Can’t wait until he comes back.
The theatre is lovely, clean and friendly with a n amazing atmosphere.Written 3 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
