- Pete M1 contributionWe had a great time, did 3 rappels off 30, 50 then 120' decants. David was very safe & thorough made this hole adventure seamlessly easy. Justin was very helpful at finding a time slot to fit our 3 days in Hocking hills.
I would recommend this trip for anyone who able to climb a root ladder. 10/01/24Written 14 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We showed up when they opened on August 21 with no reservation and there was no problem getting a canoe. Aaron was very helpful and friendly and drove us to our drop off point about 15 minutes away us and helped get our canoe into the water. He also gave us some tips about places to stop or see along the way and did mention that the river is very low and we should anticipate having to carry the canoe several times throughout the trip. We did bottom out at least five times, but generally, we were able to navigate to deeper water by just using our oars to keep us moving. There was no one else on the river except two other kayakers the entire time. They also provide you with a QR code to give you an idea of how long your trip will take, and things are located to give you an idea of how close you are to the end. Thankfully, it was a cloudy day and not humid. Otherwise, I would have totally opted for the 5 mile trip. The last 2 miles were tough because there was no current and we were literally paddling the entire time. Luckily we did get to see an osprey and a bald eagle. I would definitely do it again.Written 22 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kate W64 contributionsWe did the 3 hour/7 mile kayak starting at Rock Bridge. If you want to see Rock Bridge and kayak, skip hiking to Rock Bridge on its own and do this kayaking trip. The landing to walk 0.2 of a mile up to Rock Bridge is right across from where you get dropped off. It will save you a ton of time hiking.
However, if you've already seen Rock Bridge, skip the extra two miles and do the 5 mile trip. The river is more narrow and there are more obstacles to get around closer to Rock Bridge. The Hocking River is on the shallow side in August, so we did run into multiple areas where we bottomed out in gravel, sand, or even on large rocks. We did have to get out once or twice. Canoes we saw were having an even more challenging time. We kayak a few times a year and liked the scenery/challenge, but we were tired out by the time we finally got back to the livery.
As far as the kayaking side of things, this trip would earn 4 stars. It's a pretty river, though you mostly just see woods, with the occasional rock out cropping, and it was fun to navigate.
From the business side, though, 2.5 stars. We were told to arrive at 9 for a 9:30 trip. We didn't leave the livery until 9:45, even though we were the only people going to our location. They have a spot to check your keys, but not any other belongings. There are bathrooms in a separate building outside, but as soon as the guy checked us in he left (literally - he got in his truck and drove off towards town) and didn't give us any directions or information, so we weren't aware of that until we got back. The bathrooms are actually nice, however, and have showers in them.
The van we rode in to the landing didn't have seatbelts, the seats were rocking back and forth, etc. As two adults, we were fine, but I wouldn't have wanted kids in there.
All of the guys we talked to were polite, but gave very little information and seemed to not be communicating very well with each other either. Thankfully, they have a printed map that they gave us, but it didn't include clear information about returning.
In order to return to the livery you have to paddle under a bridge and then walk your kayak up to the dock, if the water level is low. It's doable, but we almost missed the turn in because we were expecting it to be somewhere else.Written 6 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rakesh V2 contributionsFirst of all, we were disappointed not to have 3 two-wheelers that we initially signed up for and paid for. We had driven this trail in the past. We preferred 2 seats over 4 seats.
Then, we hear that one of the safety doors on the passenger side is not there, as it was jammed and had to be removed. We asked for a replacement unit, and we got a response back from your guide/receptionist: “This is all we got, and it’s fine." It’s a serious breach of safety.
With some hesitation, we started trailing for 10-15 minutes, and at the first pit stop (at the obstacle course building), we were told that the right passenger tire is "flat." We requested your team to replace the tire, as it’s not safe for us to ride with a flat tire.
Response we got from your guides: “We don’t have replacement tires." “We don’t have replacement units.”
They recommended we ride with a flat tire (have evidence to prove) as the company doesn’t have a backup unit and we were in the middle of the trail, and it’s ok for the company if any damages incur directly or indirectly from the flat tire. After riding for a short time, the right side axle/tire got damaged from the traction created from the right side rear tire being flat. We were so disappointed that we had to share a ride with 2 units when we paid for 3 units in the middle of the course.
From the start, we never went off trail or beyond tracks and followed rules and instructions from the beginning.
A few days later, we got a bill for $1100 for repairs. No official receipt of repairs, just an email with 3 lines stating we will charge your credit card the above-mentioned amount.
This is a whole rip-off company, with poorly maintained ATVs and a lack of professional support and risking your life. It will also charge you money for there defective equipment. Good luck if ur planning to use this company.Written 23 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
