- The_Coach55Ruislip, UK961 contributionsThe St Agnes museum is located just south of the village.
It is a little tricky to visit via public transport but we took the U1A bus towards Newquay from Truro station, a journey of around 40 minutes. The bus drops you almost outside the museum.
The museum is quite modern inside with an interesting range of local artefacts. It is housed over two floors.
The local industries were copper, tin and arsenic mining, fishing and agriculture.
There was an interesting video of the now defunct (since the Beeching cuts in 1963) railway line to Perranporth which ran through St Agnes.
I liked the virtual reality view of St Agnes harbour in the early 20th century having never used such technology before !
I also enjoyed the information about two famous locals. John Passmore Edwards, a 19th century journalist and philanthropist as well as John Opie, an 18th century portrait painter.
Admission is free and the staff on duty were most helpful and informative.
The museum is open daily.Written 29 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Perfect self service tour for couples or families run by the son of a former tin miner. - BoonstraLeesburg, VA293 contributionsThis was one of our favorite experiences in Cornwall. The Heather covered the hills and the views were spectacular. There’s a lot of uphill walking, so you need to be able to walk a few miles. The beach below was also beautiful with lots of cool caves.Written 26 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JulietMullion, UK9 contributionsMy 14 year old son was given a voucher for a driving experience by his grandparents for his birthday.
We went along on bank holiday Monday and he had a good hour’s worth of expert and friendly tuition by instructor Gary. Gary started by explaining the controls and within 10 minutes Henry was driving. He drove around the airfield, did hillstarts, u turns, parallel parking, slaloms around cones and reversing using the rear view mirror. Henry didn’t stop smiling for the duration of the lesson (or for the rest of the day!). Thank you so much for such an amazing experience! He’s absolutely desperate to come up again!
There is also a lovely cafe and great campsite on site.Written 29 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JillianDaBolton, UK9 contributionsLovely walk with my son and 2 dogs, one with arthritis. All accessible apart from one stile which we lifted the dog over, initial climb is worth the view and app guided us round so impossible to get lost. Finished off on the dog friendly beach and amazing food at The Schooner.Written 21 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - malc1005Kettering, UK4,723 contributionsSome of the buildings are still on site, and some memorabilia is in the station, the yard has multiple businesses including a craft shop, café ,pottery , and on the road side a diesel shunter, not sure why, as it is not old enough to have been there originally. Well worth a wander around.Written 11 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
