This is the second time we have visited Bonawe Furnace, but unfortunately this year we got our timings wrong and it was closed for the season. When I mean closed, just the visitor centre part of it, the rest of the furnace was open and you are allowed still to enter and wander around the buildings and the land at your own pace, which is good sometimes and not in a queue or behind a coach party. All the different buildings are numbered and easy to follow and there are numerous information boards dotted around so that you can easily follow the trail and understand how it used to work and how many people spend their working lives there. It is a short distance from the village of Taynult and can be either walked or driven, but the car park at this time of year is closed so don't drive up the track or you will get stuck, but you can park at the little nursery cottage and walk up the track, and beware of the cow muck which is in great supply on the track. Another interesting part of Scotlands History and still in good shape for its age.
