We spent several nights camping in one of the YURTS! It was such a great experience! The Yurts are equipped with windows that have roll up flaps with screens and 1 window that is an "actual" window. There is a dome at the top also with a screen. You can open the dome using a long pole (provided in the yurt) that twists and opens the top of dome for airflow. We were there at the beginning of August - daytime temps in the 80's and nighttime in the upper 60's/low 70's. It wasn't bad at all. There is a fire pit down just a few steps off the deck that surround the yurt, chairs, a picnic table all as part of your space. We had breakfast at the picnic table each day and loved watching the deer in the woods while we ate. It wasn't a bad walk to the bathhouse. Camp attendant was great!! Would highly recommend for a unique vacation.

This is such a treasure for those interested in the westward expansion and the impact on daily life. The archives that this museum has access to is stunning and they have enlisted the help of three local universities to aid in the cataloguing and interpretation. The preservation of a key 18th/19th century home and business along with transactional records is fabulous. It is located minutes off of I-81 and leaves you wanting to return and dig deeper into this rich history. The docents are both historians as well as fabulous story tellers. command get edutainment

I decided to visit to get a gift and besides the very good Brandy ( that’s all they make ), I had a great talk about the area, wineries and the distillery. They are set up to host events and separate rooms for meetings. I will definitely visit again

It was too cloudy to view through the telescope while I was there but I was the Only One there! So, I got the curator all to myself for two hours and received a Most Excellent tour of the facility and descriptions of the small collection of materials there. Even had some Very old books that were interesting although they didn't have much to do, directly, with an Observatory.

Mike the bus driver and Michelle the tour leader were very nice and did a good job. Overall the bus trip was ok. It felt very rushed and this lead to the 3 rating. We stopped for breakfast at McDonalds but were only given 15 minutes. The tour was suppose to return to Roanke at 10 pm. We were in Roanoke at 830. We were assured that we would have plenty of time to see and enjoy the Christmas Show Exhibit in Charlotte. We got there a little after 10 am and had to be back on the bus at 3 pm. This did not give us time to see and enjoy all that was offered. An extra hour would have helped immensely. I wouldn't take this trip again.
