One of the better markets for fruits a vegetables. Lots of variety and selection. Free street parking. Basically a market for food; no crafts.

Going to this gallery was an amazing experience as a new photographer. I had admired Bruce’s work and was so happy to be able to meet him!! He even took the time to talk out his story and what it has been like. Thank you so so much all the way from New York, Bruce! The tangerines were delicious too! 🌴

What a treat to stumble upon this gallery when wandering the main drag in Hilo. The paintings and sculptures in the window were very bright and welcoming, really caught our eye. The inside had a large, very diverse collection by local artists, beautifully displayed. They even had an artist painting on site, and another artist showing their work and chstting with customers. They also offer art classes from a local artist once a month. The art in this gallery is high quality, with every size, shape, medium, and price range. Something for everyone! The cashier staff were very nice and professional, we could tell that the gsllery is well run. A true local gem :)

This detached shop is near the Hilton Hotel. All items are handmade or artist-made. I left with a bag full. Currently her hours vary (owing to covid), but when I saw through the window the delights inside, I called the owner. She arrived within 10 minutes. That is amazing customer service.

Maybe but yes according to the count online. Is this supposed to be some kind of watershed event in my life? I doubt it but it seems to hold some unknown significance in my mind. I was thinking I would be writing some meaningful, personalized prose for #1000, possibly a culmination of some sort of whatever it is I'm doing with these reviews, but I doubt that as well. Maybe I'll only talk about the East Hawaii Cultural Center - no I doubt that too. While this place is kind of an interesting looking building - an old police station I believe - it is really unexceptional. Or at least my visit was I think. The only area enterable is part of the ground floor which houses an art gallery now featuring an exhibition by an artist named Douglas Diaz. This exhibition is titled "Grief" which is something I should've easily connected to but didn't. I'm absolulely sure Diaz puts a lot of intense thought and effort into his work, but I didn't get it. Wish I did if only if for the selfish reason to believe I have some sort of depth to my existence. And why I make walking into a minor art exhibition a definition of my being is incomprehensible to me as well. You know, I think I should go back and look at Diaz's work more closely than I did. There are lots of words on some (maybe all) of his works. Basquiat did a similar thing. I shouldn't have just glanced at them. I should've given those words some thought. Actually it's kind of odd that I didn't if you know me and words. My mind must have been preoccupied with something else. I don't know - I'm thinking I owe it to Diaz and myself to go back and take a second look. I did have a nice conversation with the young man who was minding the store that day. Comes from Poland and told me he thinks Hawaii is the best place in the world to live like it's paradise or something. Hmmm. I talked with a homeless man in the park across the street after I left here. He told me he sleeps in the entrance way to this building every night. I was thinking about asking him to get me something but I didn't. Some paradise.

I love strolling on the paved parking lot, just being able to talk to the local vendors about growing orchids, herbs, etc. There is even a bakery with goods baked in a brick oven. Gotta try their cinnamon rolls. I buy all my produce for the week. Also beautiful orchids at half the price of a regular retail store. Need anthuriums or floral arrangement for a gift or for yourself. Great varieties available.

Even though I was one of those annoying people who arrived at closing time they were kind enough to let me in and I was able to score blueberry and passion fruit mochi brownies that were out of this world delicious! Thank you Big Island Candy!

Loved the manager of this very unique Hawaiian trading post. The history of some of the antiques was quite interesting. Lots of wonderful things to look at, and it was great visiting with the manager. I would highly recommend this place for finding some cool treasures in the Hilo Hawaiian Vicinity.

I read some reviews that said there were local craftsmen shops which I was really excited about. But that was not the case. It is a modern strip shopping mall with mostly restaurants and a few locally owned shops - pet store, jewelry, modern clothes, cupcakes, etc. the mall was not what I was expecting nor what has been previously advertised. Nice to check out if you are looking for ways to kill time in Hilo.

We did the farm to bar your and learned so much from Tom! He is a literal encyclopedia of knowledge both about agriculture in general and specifically about turning raw cacao into chocolate. We came home with nibs, cacao tea mix, and a 100% chocolate bar! Highly recommended!

One great party in HIlo every Friday night rain or shines.
Various vendors that some change weekly, others are more consistent. Wide variety of food, arts and crafts and great wat to experience the local culture.
They have a different band every week and the artists are all local. We havent seen one band yet we did not like.
IT a fun experience for the whole family. SOme tables availabe to sit and eat also.
Opens at 5:00 every Friday at the corner of Kilauea and Waianuenue Ave ( across the street from Jackei Reys)
GO visit, You wont be disappointed .
