Wineries & Vineyards
Four Brix Winery - an craft winery located in the heart of Ventura - specializes in internationally-inspired wine blends. We produce wines based upon our four favorite grape growing regions: Italy, France, Spain and California. The word "Brix" is a term for measurement of sugar in grapes; therefore Four Brix equals four sweets spots for great wine! With a total production of around 2,500 cases, these wines are very limited and in high demand. It takes strength, creativity and patience to make great wine, kind of like raising children. In fact, our wine is like our children, so we gave them names: Smitten, Zeductive (Zinfandel and Petite Sirah), Temptress, Rhondezvous (Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah) and Scosso (Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot) are a few of our kids. Once you taste the wines, you realize how apropos the names are. When we aren't making wine, we like to hang out with a glass of wine, listening to music and eating great food. Our favorite place to hang out is at the BrixHouse- our tasting room. But we don't like to hang out alone, so we make sure there is always something going on at the BrixHouse. For Club members, affectionately referred to as "BrixHeads", there are exciting Pick Up Parties at least twice annually. Depending on the time of year, you might be able to attend a Concert in the Cellar, Foodie Friday, Dinner in the Tasting Lounge, BBQ Pizza Nights, a Blending Party or maybe just relax in the BrixHouse with a glass of wine, listening to a smooth sax player. Be sure to get on the email list for up-to-date announcements and events. Visit the BrixHouse- it's 1200 square feet with inviting rich, deep colors, high ceilings, couch area and several table and chairs arrangements. We invite guests to relax and stay; enjoy a tasting or maybe a glass or bottle of wine to share with friends. The Barrel & Production rooms are on-site and typically used for special events. But when you stop by, don't be surprised if you are invited to take a tour with one of the owners. Cheers!

My wife and I stopped here prior to spending three days on the islands. The visitor's center includes maps and information about each island as well as exhibits about the wildlife and ecology of the marine sanctuary. There is also an observation tower with views of the beaches and ocean. This was one of the coolest NPS visitor's centers that we've been to. I like to read every single map and sign and we were here for two or three hours, permit more or less time depending on what you'd like to do here.

The only reason this is a four dot review is because we received conflicting information from staff about water availability on Anacapa and Santa Rosa islands, which was frustrating as we prepared for our day trips to the islands. We packed in all the water we needed and survived but it made for a less than reassuring experience at the visitor's center.

Highly recommended! Traversed tree-lined pathways, industrial areas with pumpjacks for oil wells, wooden bridge crossings, rest stops with a restful bench and scenic views, and even chickens, a family of quail, oversized friendly hogs and Clydesdale horse that greeted us at their property lines! Beautiful falling leaves at this time of year. Pleasant trail!

The mission it self is kept up very well. Walking in it’s hard to believe this beautiful church is well over 200 years old.
There is a small room in the back with a great full size recreation of the famous Pieta statue from the Vatican. The garden although small they are beautiful with a number of statues.

We walked at night after dinner. The pier was closed, but walking the promenade was very pleasant.
In the morning, we. Walked downtown. The streets were closed to autos, making it a very pleasant walk for a very nice breakfast and shopping.

Spectacular wine tasting experience. You'll want to join the high energy atmosphere with regular fun events to enhance the warm welcome one always receives by the Four Brix team.

Ventura City Hall is a short walk from the restaurants on Main St. There is a lot of local art on display and it's free to enter. Well worth a visit.

One of the best places I could find that interpeace with myself that I couldn't find elsewhere. Absolute perfect place to watch the Sunset on any day.

It's free to enter this wonderful museum. There are quite a few rooms with lots of information about the are and its history. Outside there is a music corner with instruments you can try.

Topa Topa’s headquarters and brewery is at the end of a business park with fields and a few businesses as neighbors. They have taken advantage of their isolation by creating a visiting that rivals wineries for its openness and outdoor space.

There is a huge yard between the street and the HQ taproom, and it’s filled with picnic benches, landscaped berms, a food truck or two, a DJ (or live band depending upon the day/time) and a nice ocean breeze. Inside, there’s a large game room with a bunch of tables too. Easy to spend several hours here, relaxing and drinking some Topa Topa beer.

The HQ taproom has more than a dozen Topa Topa beers on tap. This brewery is very IPA-focused and I actively attempt to drink anything other than IPAs. Still, I found an Irish Stout (McQuilkin Dry) that was good but not great. The IPA drinkers in my group said Spectro Hazy IPA was one of the best they’ve had.

We found free parking a short distance down California St., right below Poli St. The park entrance was located right next the stately City Hall. A short walk up we reached the visitor welcome center and the start of the looping trail. It’s evident from the well-maintained grounds that the nominal $7 admission fee was well worth it. The meandering switchbacks made the ascent less arduous (we bypassed the steeper stone steps). Along the way, informative signages explained certain hillside plants and esoteric vegetation zones. As the path wound uphill, we welcomed the stone benches to rest our feet. At every turn, we were rewarded with a beautiful view of downtown Ventura, the landmark pier, the distant coastline, yonder Channel Islands, and the hazy line demarcating gray sky and water. We were amused by the sponsored interesting quotes carved on rocks along the trail. Although we didn’t reach the Rotary Plaza (a distance of 3/4 mile from start, with no shelter from wind and sun, as planned, the one-mile round-trip nature hike still felt invigorating and rejuvenating. A well-spent two leisurely hours.
