Great waterfall in a lovely lush green setting. Well maintained. Quite a lot of steps down (and up!) but a nice swimming hole at the bottom. Swings close to the top and a little bar make a nice spot to rest on a hot day. Restaurant serving fairly standard food, a bit pricey but not terrible, nice view. Clean western toilet at the entrance.

The lake area has certainly undergone many improvements since we first visited some 40 years ago. back then there was the temple, a few warungs, boat hire and the usual set-up of stalls selling various merchandise. The temple is still there but the warungs have become restaurants and the boating seems to offer a better and safer experience. The lake was formed from an ancient caldera and is approx. 1,200 metres above sea-level. Great views over the lake from the road.

Have waited several years to make the journey here and this derelict hotel must have been glorious in its day even though no one ever stayed here. Locals have cleaned the place up a bit, which makes it loose its caricature a bit and now charge $3 to get past their gate, still glad I had the opportunity to see it. Loved the dragon staircase to the viewing area above the hotel to see the valley below. Well worth the visit.
