- nsander219Chelmsford, UK628 contributionsIf you visit Lugo you are likely going to visit the walls. They are a must visit/walk. We accessed by the Cathedral via an easy ramp. The top is quite wide and is an easy stroll of about 2/2.5 km. You see both inside and outside of the town. Some good bits and some depressing derelict bits.
Watch out for the two massive wall paintings on the outside. I hope you get to see the various school playtimes as you walk around - quite entertaining.
One warning - there are no barriers to a fairly substantial drop either side (short walls at best) and we agreed the young children on the loose could easily fall.Written 19 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You pay 6 euros and get earphones in English or Spanish to understand more about this spectacular cathedral . Unfortunately you aren’t allowed to take photos . On the “ second floor” of the church there is a beautiful and interesting museum with many wooden statues mostly of the Virgin Mary and a unique “ retablo” perfectly painted and preserved. Make sure not to be there at 12:00 pm as there is a mass and you will have to wait 30 min before visiting the front part of the cathedral .Written 3 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MargaretPowellMelbourne, Australia1,387 contributionsWow, we were so impressed. I have been to Galicia now 3 times and this amazing Roman fortified city ruins and museum is just 15 minutes from Castro de Rei or about 40 minutes from Lugo and literally 600 metres from the main road north. This is the best kept secret and is free to visit the ruins and the grotto. There is a small museum on site as well. Incredible.Written 12 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- JJJC_FamilyVirginia810 contributionsThis is a very small museum right across from the cathedral. It is a mithraic house, Mithras being a G-d that pre-dates Rome, but was taken up by some Romans. I liked it. Enclosed ruins with some reasonable explanations made for a quick, but interesting visit. You could spend as little as 10 minutes to maybe half an hour here. The other Mithras place I saw was at the bottom of multiple levels of different ruins under a really neat ancient church with fantastic mosaics in Rome, the Basilica di San Clemente, near the Colosseum. That was even neater and highly recommended.Written 29 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
