I never went to the Mayan ruins, surf city, the lakes were already mentioned in previous reviews. These locations were not listed separately. The Santa ana volcano is a must see location and you can take a tour and climb the side of the volcano. When you reach the summit, you get a breathtaking view of the iake inside of this active volcano. It takes around 2 hours each way for this hike and a tour guide is required for around $50 per person. You also have to a pay a small park fee, as well. This may seem like a lot of money, but can you imagine doing this hike on a daily basis as your job in all types of weather conditions.
Lake Coatepeche is probably the most popular lake in all of ES. I could not believe all of the muliti million-dollar homes with their luxury boats on their private piers. There are a lot of nice restaurants to eat or small kiosk syle food locations, as well. I enjoyed going to this one restaurant that had a couple locations where you can swim within the complex. There is a kids swimming pool and a good place to take your family. You also must pull over on the side of the road and get a overall scenic photo of the entire lake at the summit. Once again, my favorite part of the visit was taking another scenic boat ride that only cost $25 for 2 people and I left at $6 tip here. The entire location is so beautiful, very clean, safe, inexpensive and a great place for some rest and relaxation.
