What travellers are saying
- hlyArcadia, CA30 contributionsThis place has a magnificent view of Lake Toya because of the elevation. Nice place to visit. The "TOYA" sign is cool to take pictures to prove your visit. The store also has a lot of sovereign food/snacks to buy.Written 30 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Just outside our Lake View Toyo Nonozake Resort is this rustic building. The inside is a combination of a produce market, souvenir shop, tourist information, and toilets.
The farmer's cooperative seems alive and well. I saw the largest won bok ever. There were customers buying vegetables. Potatoes are particularly famous in this area.
It seems to manned by seniors, mostly women. One spoke English fluently and a source of information.Written 2 November 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RedPuffinsBrisbane156 contributionsThis is an interesting and quirky cruise around the lake. We went on the castle boat. Because it was winter we didn't stop at the island. It's fun.Written 12 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Robert DBrooklyn, New York2,602 contributionsThis modern museum tells the story of the eruptions of Mt. Usu. See the multimedia presentation as well as artifacts that were damaged by the eruptions. Behind the museum, you can walk a trail and the see damage from the most recent eruption in 2000.Written 23 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MY_AdvisorCologne, Germany57 contributionsNice seeing more nature and a bit more of history of Toyako. Only go when it is dry though as some of the paths can get quite slippery!Written 8 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - nadiahkimiePetaling Jaya, Malaysia125 contributionsA tranquil park with a small temple at the end of a little peninsula. Beautiful even in the summer with wildflowers growing all around the temple.Written 3 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PhoenaKuala Lumpur, Malaysia65 contributionsTravelling in Japan is very confusing using public transport, sometimes you need to reserve and paid online, sometimes you have to book a day in advance to reserve, and most often, you have to stand in queue to wait for your day bus (long distance) without reservation required. And this bus terminal in Toyako is one of the most confusing, you are not allowed to buy bus ticket from the counter except you have made a telephone reservation.
Being a foreign tourist with just a data phone in hand, means you need all the help that are available with thick face.
I am writing this review to thank all the staff in the Lake Toya Tourist Information Center, without them punching thru the ever busy phone line to help me to get a reservation, I think I might be stuck in this quiet little town with the poker face bus ticket lady.
Thanks for the good job, very much appreciated.Written 7 February 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - hcchelseaSingapore, Singapore56 contributionsYou can get a map from the Toyako Visiter centre before starting the trail. The trail head is located behind the parking lot next to the volcano museum. It is well marked and there are signages in English.
We ended up at the Nishiyama parking lot where we continued, then taking the bus back to Lake Toya. I recommend completing the trail. You get to see many interesting formations/ destroyed sites post eruption.Written 29 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Suggest to bring a bottle of wine and some snacks to just sit there and enjoy the surrounding view.Written 13 September 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shaka_FrankAiea, HI1,057 contributionsI saw this torii gate from the train on our initial ride from Hakodate to Sapporo, and I thought (with no camera ready, naturally) "what a postcard picture". Seeing it in person on our day trip to Lake Toya was a real treat. Just the contrast of reddish orange against the hillside greenery make a great picture. So, why did all of my photos have to turn out with flaws in them? Bummer.Written 5 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
