I walked up from the riverfront (and walked there from the train station), passing through Kirshgarten along the way. It is uphill, but very doable.

There was an organ recital going on when I got there, which drew in a big crowd. It was neat to hear the organ. After that was over, I walked around looking at the stained glass windows. They are stunningly beautiful

It’s free to enter. It doesn’t take long to visit; the windows are the main thing.

I walked to the cathedral from the train station. It’s such a big building that it’s easy to find as long as you head in the right direction.

I had to circle around a bit to find the opening; the doors to enter for sightseeing aren’t obvious. There was a small sign near the door. The entrance is underwhelming. But, once inside, it’s impressive.

There are many sculptures along the wall, some with a real gothic vibe (skeletons). The main part of the church is huge, and the ceiling very high.

I was there on a Saturday morning in October; it wasn’t busy at all except there were several tour groups.

Amazing collection of early printed material and printing technology; also covered the equally fascinating history of East Asian printing. Layout not always clear; some but not all of the information was translated into English.

I’m not sure how it is the rest of the week, but it was busy on the Saturday that I was there. There was a farmers market going on, a beer garden, and wine drinking section. Lots of people milling around. I was surprised to see a patch of wildflowers blooming in the midst of the Markt. There’s also some great views of the surrounding historic buildings.

Yes, there's an ancient temple in a downtown Mainz shopping mall! It's free, with printed documents in multiple languages. Also, the guide when I was there went through all the exhibits in English with me -- for free!

A small neighborhood with timbered houses, cobblestone streets, and a feeling of medieval Germany. Great photo ops. Several shops, cafes, and restaurants. It’s also pretty close walking distance to several other must-see sights of Mainz. I walked through it on the way to see St. Stephan’s Church.

I’m kind of surprised that this isn’t the number one ranked church in Mainz. I thought that the interior was absolutely stunning. Done in an elaborate baroque style, I hardly knew where to look first. The ceilings, walls, balcony, just everything is decorated. It’s an easy walk from the Mainz Cathedral . Although it’s much smaller than that cathedral, it’s beautiful.

What an excellent museum! It was a bit off the beaten path but within walking distance of where our ship was docked - it took us 18 minutes to walk there.
The museum was free, we wore a mask and had to present our vaccination card. There are restrooms and a small store with books but mostly things for children; some postcards.
The displays were fascinating to me and the story of the recovery of the ships is also fascinating.
There is still work being done and you could see into the workshop.
I am so glad we took time to visit. I suggest you go too.

This beautiful and a bit bizarre fountain is a must see. I saw it on a bright and sunny morning, and there was a very visible rainbow formed from the water spray. I enjoyed walking around and noticing all the different characters on the fountain.

My son & I came here as soccer fans of the away team competing in the German Bundesliga on a Friday evening. This is the home ground for FC Mainz 05. We had previously bought two tickets online for the princely sum of 12,00€ each. We drove down from the north of North Rhein Westphalia and we were directed to the area for the away fans (in our case supporting Bayer 04 Leverkusen). We were thrilled to be sent to a car park area exactly next to the stadium for the fee of 5,00€. Incredibly good value.

Having negotiated the COVID and other normal security checks we found our way to our block easily enough. The stadium is quite new, has good facilities including decent washrooms, a snack bar (try the spicy Feuerwurst) and terraces where we had a decent view over the whole pitch.

We were warned that the gates at the exit at the end of the game would only open 30 minutes after the final whistle. But that wasn't a problem for us.

All in all an excellent stadium where we, as away team fans, were treated extremely well. Well, we did lose after all... Thanks!

I was properly wowed upon entering. The outside of the church is intriguing with its double tower, but I was completely unprepared for what lay inside. Stunning ornamentation!! The artistry of the paintings, the plasterwork, frescoes, the gold and ebony everywhere. Breath-taking. And very few people there the morning I went in...I think it is overshadowed by the Dom and other churches. So worth a stop on your walking tour of Mainz.

The museum is great and other users explain better than me. I can add, our experience with kids. In a lot of rooms had some staff to explain and to entretain the kids while the adults can see some parts of the rooms. Finally the kids had a rooms that tehy can draw, dress, play withdiffernt activities that help us to explain and interactuate with the children.
