Before I totally condemn what was a terribly boring and mentally troubling experience , I probably need to point out that this is my opinion of cruising for the first time, and I understand that some people, for some unknown reason maybe actually enjoy it. Like I said this was the first and last time . I for the love of god, can not see what the attraction is ! The good points first. The room and the ship itself are immaculate and the staff are great , very helpful and attentive , but it stops there ! The food is totally rank , the main restaurant was only frequented once due to the smell , when on that that occasion we did try it , it was bad and I mean very bad. almost 3rd world at best. Mass produced slop for 4000 guests. The speciality restaurants with the exception of the Japanese one, are just as bad Jamie Oliver has put his name to one of them , but he really needs to be informed about what they serve you up there , (poor bloke has his reputation to think about ) Steak in Steak house is not even low end supermarket quality. We did manage to find the Spanish version of the pot noodle in a supermarket whilst at a stop , so 20 of them did help quite a lot when took back aboard. Next the entertainment, well that's what they called it anyway. There was a live band called the Dukes that played a lot , the bloke was not to bad but the woman lead singer sounded like a karaoke reject . as soon as she opened her mouth, it was a classic "get your coat moment" , Other wise to pass the time there is Bingo ! Sudoku ! Quizzes ! Treasure hunts WHOOOOO , Its crap My Summary of a cruise is that, you will enjoy it if you have no standards in what you put in your mouth, Like bingo , Drink a lot , like to get drees up just to feel important and look a Pratt, are over 80 or basically you just want to say to everyone , "I have been on Royal Caribbean Cruise ship" It was that bad that we did look at flights from Tenerife to Southampton in order to get away from it , however there is none unless you do 3 stops and it its over 24 hours traveling. I was prepared to do this but my wife brought 3 cases ( no luggage restriction on the cruise ) but you cant get 3 cases on a plane so we was stuck in hell for another week. Cruise ship are just huge floating caravans serving substandard everything whilst housing 1000s people who look like they have just left a Primark convention while drunk. Don't bother go somewhere else.

Our first ever cruise, we chose Royal Caribbean, originally booked in 2018 for a 2020 sailing from Southampton to canaries on independence of the seas, unfortunately Royal Caribbean decided to change the ship to Anthem if the seas shortly after booking, kindly provided us with a deluxe drinks package as a thank you. Covid arrived in 2020 so it has taken us until 2022 to get onboard, different itinerary too as now a med cruise and also 3 weeks earlier as Royal stopping 14 days cruises. The ship itself is amazing, very very large, so much to do in the day and night, the food was just fantastic as was any of the drinks, service from all the staff we encountered ( joe who looked after our cabin was exceptional ) was fantastic too, our cabin was a balcony cabin on deck 10 120 port side, plenty of room for the time we spent in the cabin and great views from the balcony. Our choice would have been to sail in September when slightly cooler and without the 1000 children on board, the majority were well behaved just a few older teenagers that certainly had fun in the early hours. With only 1 outside pool the area became very busy and people leaving towels on sun beds from 6-7am and then not sit on the bed until noon became an irritating annoyance on sea days, unattended beds were cleared by Royal staff eventually. To Sum up the Ship is vast, choose time to sail wisely or the ship could be very full, lots of choice for food and drink, we liked the entertainment but others found it same daily and boring, we will be cruising again in the future, probably try another cruise line to see how things stack up.

Have been on this ship before but was still excited to have another adventure. So off to Norway we go. The second day is cruising, this was a little choppy but was fine. This ship has every really, a variety of bars, music, a variety of shows, water rides. You won’t get bored. Just needs more areas to sit when having a quiet drink at a quiet bar

Fantastic!! Food and service excellent in both the main dining and buffet, more than enough choice and all very good quality. We had a 5 night dining package and the food in all of the speciality restaurants was superb and well worth the extra cost. Drinks package essential (if you like a few) and rarely waited long, plus speciality coffees etc. are also included. My wife had some spa treatments which were expensive tbf but she seemed to enjoy them and it gave me some peace..! Gym very good and enough equipment so no waiting. The ‘We Will Rock You’ show was excellent, we have seen it in the West End and it is cut slightly short on the cruise but is still not to be missed. Overall we enjoyed all of the other shows and performances. The Beatles are excellent and their 3 performances were varied and entertaining. Can understand entertainment in bars may be repetitive but it didn’t really bother us. There was a lot of kids onboard and our two had a ball (12 and 14), most generally well behaved but there will always be some that are more unruly. Didn’t really experience any issues ourselves. Surf, ifly, dodgems, roller skating etc. were all very well received! On sea days you have to be up reasonably early to secure a sunbed near the pool (we tended to go somewhere above the main pool deck). We only generally had two beds (kids not bothered) and even at 8.30am there were beds available. We saw towels being removed in the mornings so it is policed (to an extent) and there were still plenty available at the rear of the ship until late morning. Cabin was perfect and cleaned spotlessly, cannot fault anything in this regard. Port transfer in Ibiza is a rip off as only a short walk but you live and learn! Barcelona not needed either - though wasn’t quite as costly! 2/4 came back with Covid but could happen anywhere and would not put me off booking again. I would highly recommend this ship and itinerary!

We have just returned from a two week Mediterranean Cities and Beaches cruise on the Anthem of the Seas and a very impressive ship she is, very well appointed and our balcony stateroom was excellent. However, Royal Caribbean promote their cruises and ships on their level of service to a large degree and therein arises a problem... Starting on the first evening in the Grande dining room we were overcharged by nine dollars on a bottle of wine, a bottle which could be bought in any supermarket for around £4 (and for which they would probably pay around £2 - £2.50) was charged on the wine list at $28 but ended up on our bill at $37... it took four days and much haggling to get this error resolved! The drinks on board are quite simply a rip off. A can of soft drink is between $3.50 - $4.00 and a small can or bottle of beer is around the $8.50 mark... somewhat extortionate. My meal on that first evening was a New York strip steak, half of which was too tough to cut or eat as it was gristle. And that was not the only poor meal in the ‘Grande’ restaurant, the premier dining room, guests on our table had similar problems with steaks which were either incorrectly cooked or again, too tough to eat. One evening two guests ordered lamb shanks, both were sent back as they could not even cut into them let alone eat them! Unfortunately these were not isolated incidents as over the whole fortnight meals were being rejected for the above reasons and also for being served too cold or dried up after being kept warm too long... Chicken Cordon Bleu which was too dry served with peas like bullets and diced carrots all of which had come out of a freezer bag along with cheap fries... and all this in the premier dining room! The unanimous view of our table was that the chef should be replaced. As for the dining room staff, there was simply no co-ordination in the service and mostly they could not seem to get their act together and work as a team as it appeared that they had received little or no training. Sometimes there were long waits either for or between courses and all this again in the premier dining room of the ship... unacceptable. What a contrast when using the Windjammer buffet, a wide variety of excellent food, properly cooked and very well presented by helpful staff. The only sad part of the buffet was seeing the greed displayed by some passengers and the amount of waste they generated. There is an excellent Pizza restaurant which is free of charge and offers a variety of really tasty Pizzas. Likewise there is an ice cream bar offering very good ice creams, on deck near to the North Star bar. The North Star itself is an experience not to be missed, rising to around three hundered feet above the ocean with great views alround. There is also the Flow Rider, where you can try out your surfboarding skills and a virtual sky diving experience, all excellent and a credit to the ship. There are dodgem cars too! A large and comfortable theater put on a range of excellent shows and entertainment and is definitely not to be missed. The cabin staff were excellent and the excellent stateroom was always pristine, a very high standard was maintained throughout the cruise. On deck there is always the irritating problem of towels on sunbeds, a practice which RC say is not permitted and which will be resolved by such towels being removed by crew members... this was an empty threat as nothing was ever done about it and many guests could not get a sunbed as towels would be left all day with no one turning up to claim the bed. Come on Royal Caribbean, get your act together and sort this problem... you only have to remove the towels once and make a charge for them as you say you will and the problem will disappear. This problem is common to all crusie lines and it could easily be resolved if they all adopted a more positive approach. Would we cruise with them again? Possibly yes, if we could be assured that the dining situation had improved to the level which would be expected and the prices of drinks were reduced to a more reasonable level. A last observation which has no relation to RC is the lack of manners and consideration displayed by some passengers both moving around the buffet and the ship and entering lifts by barging in before the alighting passengers have had a chance to exit first. A sad reflection on current trends...
