Decided to look last minute (2 weeks out) for a family spring break trip and found a great deal out of New Orleans on the Carnival Valor. Found three interior cabins side by side on the 10th deck and called Carnival directly to book as we were traveling with two adults and 4 kids( ages 11-18). For starters the customer service was outstanding when booking. Call answered within a minute, and not only arranged the cabins the way we wanted but saved me over $350 on top of the great deal we had found online. On the day to start the cruise it was literally only 15 minutes from being dropped off by the Uber driver to being on board the ship. This is even with the additional screening that was due to the worldwide virus outbreak and normal customs and security screenings. This was our third overall cruise and was literally the quickest boarding ever without even purchasing any expedited service. Once on board we found the crew very professional and extremely friendly. Everything was super clean and the crew seemed to work around the clock cleaning everything. Cabins on the 10th deck were extremely beneficial to accessing almost all activities/pools/bars and spa. Cabin steward kept room serviced and cleaned twice a day and responded quickly to every extra request made (extra towels, ice in the room at all times. bathrobes ect). Food at the restaurants was very good and could match almost any appetite with its selection. Bar drinks are not the water downed variety and in fact we found the drinks on board to be better than the drinks found on shore at the stops we made. For the adults in the group considering the Cheers Package that is offered it may be beneficial to purchase from Carnival even if you are not a huge drinker. It will pay for itself if you purchase of 5 mixed drinks a day on average. Also included with this package is unlimited sodas, specialty coffees( think of the type of drinks at the fancy coffee shops), milkshakes, smoothies and even bottled water. So even if your not getting 5 mixed drinks it can be beneficial. Excellent entertainment onboard and even recent movies being shown on in the evenings on the entertainment deck. Plenty of things to do for all ages. Value to the dollar is big for us. Six travelers (Mom,Dad and 4 kids) and this was a hit. Compared to what a beachfront condo would run for the week and groceries that I would have had to cook we got a three cabins (Mom and Dad with their personal space, two boys in another cabin and two girls in the third cabin) all the food everyone desired and all the drinks for all. Not having to cook or clean and getting to see some incredible sights that went beyond the normal beach experience was a big plus.

The food was terrible on this cruise. It was often cold and very tasteless. There was almost no food selection. The overall staff were rude. Our room steward told us that if we wanted wine glasses in our cabin, we had to get them ourselves. The cabin was small but very clean. The entertainment was not very good. It was average at best. We did enjoy our two shore excursions very much.

The international crew with smiles through every request or demand was what impressed me. Sheila, who was cleaning Rosie's Restaurant area, helped me find my way to the chocolate! "I Made," my cabin steward kept everything clean and lovely and came to tidy up when we asked, while Ali, my friend's cabin steward called me by name every time I passed in the hall. Our headwaiter, "I Gede" took care of even the pickiest among us with the help of "I Made" a team waiter and Jomar an assistant waiter. Lorinel and a beautiful young lady whose name began with a P helped us also in the LIncoln Dining Room. My point is the PEOPLE working for Carnival are worth the trip! Every meal I ate was delicious, and the port in Cozumel is very beautifully done. The trip was worth every penny spent.

This was our 27th cruise with Carnival and have seen many changes. We chose this trip because of an extremely good experience 6 months ago. Somehow, they managed to exceed my expectations. The high point for us was the Pub listening to Deep Blue Soul. This is the most entertaining band I have had to pleasure to see on any Carnival ship. They're leaving at the end of February, unfortunately. The food on the Lido was nothing to write home to mom about, but edible with plenty of selection. The fried chicken was "cooked" and not very good, but everything else was okay. The deli makes great sandwiches and the Bar-B-Que is great but has limited hours. The Main dining room was different. The food was excellent and as requested. I could not have asked for better service. We chose "anytime dining" and the longest wait we had was 5 minutes, but there was entertainment available in the area. The entertainment in the main theater was "America Rocks" and I found it very enjoyable and well presented. Our balcony cabin was clean and cool, but some friends traveling with us did have some issues with there air conditioner the entire cruise. We met our steward and decided on a cleaning schedule. After that, he was magically invisible, but somehow our cabin got serviced and a "Happy Birthday" message appeared all over the mirror in the cabin. When you have a good steward, you rarely see him/her, but you see the results of their work. On the negative side: I didn't care for the performer in the piano bar and the solo guitarist was "okay" Service throughout the ship was good to excellent. The ship does have some age, so if you are looking for issues, you will find them but they are generally cosmetic in nature.
