We recently returned from a cruise on the NCL Breakaway that was supposed to go to New England & Canada. We made all the New England stops and (1) stop in New Brunswick Canada before Hurricane Fiona had us diverted from going to Halifax Nova Scotia and instead spent the day in Boston Harbor. Given the damage done to Halifax I would like to commend the Captain & crew for giving us a smooth trip Boston. The crew and staff on this cruise couldn't have been more accommodating, from remembering our names and choice of libation to just making sure everyone on board could have a good time. I would like to mention and thank an Assistant Maitre'D by name, Ivanovic Danijela. One night during a dinner show there were some issues at our table, the kind of issues that come up when trying to coordinate feeding (200) people at the same time. Miss Danijela saw what was happening and immediately came over to our table to see what she could do to correct the situation. Unfortunately, she couldn't fix what went wrong at that moment in time but she did go out of her way to find us the next day and make up for the snafu. She was able to have the charge reversed and was able to get us a reservation in a restaurant that was booked. Just goes to show that you don't have to make a ruckus to be made whole. The next thank you goes to Paul, our cabin steward who kept our room spotless and I don't know how he did it, but other than seeing him in the morning he slipped in and out changing towels, linens and all the other stuff without us ever having to ask or being seen doing it. Ironically, we had the same cruise director, Jake, from our cruise in April of 2022 who, like he did during our April cruise made sure we all had a good time. If you take this cruise, definitely take a few tours. We thoroughly enjoyed Newport Rhode Island Land & Sea cruise, Kennebunkport was scenic, Bahr Harbor and Acadia National Park are really impressive and New Brunswick Canada and the Bay of Fundy and definitely sights to see.

overall this was an average cruise, nothing really stood out. the food was fair, the Garden Cafe Buffet was a free for all, which I think was not right, considering Covid was still a threat. Cagney's was ok at best, I had the Porterhouse, the small portion was excellent, but the bigger portion was chewy. our only bright spot, was our room steward, he did an outstanding job. we met 3 other couples and ended up drinking every night with them every night. once back in our homes, out of the 7 other people we hung out with, 8 of us had Covid 19 on the following Monday, only one person did not have it.

We did the New England Cruise from New York to Portland, Boston, Bar Harbor, Saint John, and Halifax from 9/11 to 9/18. The highlight of the cruise was Syd Normans Pourhouse. They had 5 shows on our cruise, saw all 5. Simply the very best live music in a small venue that I have ever seen. That band is insanely talented and those shows alone were worth the price of the cruise. This was our 4th NCL cruise, and 1st time seeing them. That is the Great rating, and they were Tony the Tiger GGGGGRRRRREEEEAAAAAT! Now, the Good? Food was good, but maybe a notch below what we experienced our 1st 3 cruises. Still good, no doubt, but not great like we had experienced before. The service at the bars and restaurants was good, but not great. Couple of times slow, but overall good. The show Six was also very good, and entertaining. Now for the areas they can improve. The embarkation onto the ship? Not great. The process of taking the tendors to shore? Bad. That needs work, was not impressed. Waited forever to get into Bar Harbor and almost missed our tour. Really sucked. Overall a great experience. If not for the live band at Syd's, I would have given this an average to good experience, but that live music at Syd's put it over the top. I once saw the 80's band Night Ranger in a buddy's bar the night before they played the big show at a stadium, and saw them up close. They were good, but not as good as this band at Syd Norman's.

We booked our vacation in May 2022 for a September cruise. I have been on many cruises and multiple cruise lines. Right after we booked, my sisters and I tried to change our booking to a different type of room so that we could all be near each other or even together in a bigger room. NCL was not flexible and kept saying that once we booked, we couldn’t change without a large penalty. We opted to hold on to our rooms even though if we checked online, these bigger rooms were available up to our sailing date. We booked an excursion through NCL but were told by the company (Halifax Hop on Hop off) that NCL overbooked and they couldn’t accommodate all of the people looking to Hop On. We were able to walk a distance to grab the bus at a different stop but were never able to Hop Off because of all of the people waiting at the stops. It was crazy. NCL would not return our money and gave us quite a run around when we complained. I know Covid hit cruise lines hard but NCL seems to be pushing the limits of a company in the service industry. The people working there seem great and friendly but the company policies are rigid and only focus on the almighty dollar.

Norwegian Cruise Lines has essentially stolen our deposit by converting it to a Cruisefirst credit. After being on hold for several hours and several phone calls to speak with the appropriate person, I was told the voucher cannot be converted to US dollars from Canadian which essentially makes it worthless because they only deal in US dollars. This voucher was given to us because of a canceled cruise by NCL. It should have been a credit due to their cancelation, not by us. Now they won't honor it. I have nothing but trouble dealing with NCL. I will never book with them again. You are on hold for hours and hours. It's utterly ridiculous and they have now stolen $300 from us.
