We did a 10 day Southern Caribbean cruise on Rotterdam. This was our second time cruising on one of Holland's Pinnacle Class ships. (We previously cruised on Koningsdam.) Overall, the cruise was excellent. The amenities, service, entertainment, and food met the standards that we have come to expect from Holland America. The crew was very friendly. We were sad to leave when the cruise ended. One of the things I noticed was how stable the ship is. Even on Koningsdam, we felt a bit of rocking while at sea. (This is normal during a cruise.) Rotterdam was exceptionally stable. It felt as if we were docked for most of the time while we were underway.

This was the first cruise for my husband, so we chose a 14 day trip from Amsterdam to Norway, Iceland and Scotland. We had a balcony cabin which was very nicely designed and quite roomy. We were on deck six, which was very quiet. We found a great selection of food choices at the Lido market, with something for everyone. I was surprised a the number of healthy options also. We also enjoyed treating ourselves to the dining room which was excellent. We did not purchase any additional extras, so cannot comment on the extra charge dining. The staff on board were all very friendly and helpful. Despite the large number of guests onboard, we were always able to find a quiet place to relax. We found the entertainment generally good, with an emphasis on music, which suited us we.. There were also plenty of educational style port info talks and lots of information about how the ship operates. We didn't miss the cabaret/club atmosphere of other cruise lines. Our only disappointment was not being able to visit Reykjavik due to bad weather. Overall I would highly recommend this this beautiful ship, especially for the over 50's, looking for a relaxed type cruise, with plenty to keep you busy if you choose.

The cruise itself was very good. We enjoyed glacier bay and college fjord quite a lot. There were a couple disappointments: we were expecting a glass veranda, but got a solid metal one. The room was not very clean (trash from previous guests) and the showers were somewhat clogged. But otherwise the experiences and services were good. However, the Denali portion was an absolute mess. The bus to the park was very crowded and poorly ventilated. We expected that to be one of the rougher parts of the trip but for the price we paid we were hoping for something a little better. The worse end was getting out of the park. After waiting around for ages they finally announced that the supposed luxury train was heavily delayed. We could either wait around (having already been checked out of our room) and hope to catch the next train, and doing so lose the day in Anchorage or take another bus and merely miss most of the day in Anchorage. They offerred no compensation for the downgrade. We usually like to plan our own trips, so this was our first time cruising, and for the incredible cost, I dont think it was exactly worthwhile. Looking back, I think the Denali portion would have been cheaper, easier, and more reliable had we just rented a car in Whittier and handled it ourselves. Would've provided a lot more flexibility. Really, if we had done it all on our own, we'd have based ourselves in Whittier/Anchorage, done the daytrips to Glacier Bay/College Fjord, and then drove around Denali/Anchorage by car. The three lower cities we visited were pretty good, I especially enjoyed the hiking available in Juneau and the Totems in Ketchikan, but Skagway was a tourist trap with more jewlery stores than people. All in all, we had a good time, but wouldve enjoyed handling it ourselves, as the cruise line didnt really do that.

We did the 7 day Norway cruise on the Rotterdam. We had our two kids (9 and 12) and our parents with us. This cruise exceeded all of our expectations! The ship is beautiful and new, with plenty to do onboard without it being overwhelming. Our four shared a verandah room--one child had the sofa bed and one had the pulldown bunk. With all of the closets, cabinets, and drawers, we did not feel crowded or cluttered (shocking, honestly!). Didn't use the verandah much because of the rain, but the view was lovely. Seno, our stateroom attendant, was amazing and helpful throughout the week. The pool area is where we spent the most time--we liked that there were two levels so we could sit above the pool and keep an eye on the kids. the retractable roof was a bonus. NY Pizza was where our kids spent most of their lunches and evening snacks. Dive-in burgers were okay but not a hit for our family. Lido Market was full of healthy options and did not feel as overwhelming as some buffets can (for lunch, the CYO salad station was the best). We saw almost all of the bars at some point, and it is worth noting that away from the pool bars, each has slightly different offerings in their menus (at least re: wine). Dining room was great. We did not do a set time, and never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a table for 6. Every server we had was attentive, friendly, and really great especially with the kids. Food was better than we expected--not everything is a home run, but nothing was inedible (unlike other cruises). We did one night in the Pinnacle Restaurant which was really good, and my husband and I did the De Librije pop up which turned out not to be our style but glad we can say we did it. Kids Club was something our kids used in the evenings only, and they enjoyed getting to know some other kids and also have access to video games (and other activities, too). The staff--Tom, Susanna, Katje--were all really awesome according to our kids. Our kids asked to go every night, even when we offered to keep them with us! There were plenty of things for adults to do, and our parents enjoyed the lectures and casino, while we enjoyed the live music. We did excursions via Holland America which made it very easy and seamless. Getting on and off the boat was simple. Bring masks if you will be on a bus...we had someone coughing behind us the whole time on one excursion and unsurprisingly some of us got a cough a few days later... Finally, really liked that they do a Captain's welcome for the whole boat--meeting the senior staff (and our kids met the Captain) made it nice to be able to recognize them throughout the week. It was also a fun start to the trip.

This was the 3rd time we had scheduled this cruise. 2020 cancelled - pandemic, 2021 - cruising still shut down, 2022- husband ill had to cancel, finally 2023 we made it! Arranged a direct flight to Amsterdam, boarded the Holland America ship Rotterdam. We set sail for 2 weeks to Norway ports. Can’t say enough about the service and wonderful staff on this ship. The cleaning and disinfecting was non-stop 24 hours a days. There were a few cases of Norovirus but I don’t believe the ship could do any more to prevent it. You can’t make people practice good hygiene. Every Norway port was beautiful, the excursions were great and staffed by knowledgeable locals that spoke English very well. We visited Ulvik, Alesund, Geiranger, Bergen, Oslo, Kristiansand, Stavanger, Flam, Norway and finally Amsterdam. Wonderful experience. Our stateroom was very spacious - king size bed and the balcony. We always book a stateroom with a balcony - there is nothing more relaxing that sitting on your balcony and just enjoying the cruise. Two evenings the North Sea was a little rough and some passengers were seasick but we were fine. The entertainment onboard was wonderful. We spent most evenings in BB King Blues Club - they performed mostly Motown hits, paid tribute to Tina Turner, Sam Cooke, etc. We would do this cruise again!
