How strict are they about having all of a tent on the tent pad at Elkmont? I have an oddly shaped larger tent that is unlikely to fully fit on a tent pad. The policies section on recreation.gov suggest they are very strict, but pictures of individual sites on recreation.gov sometimes show tents off pads (e.g. site G14), so I am not sure what actually is allowed.
We have been trying to book a river site in D section for the last 3 years (in July). We have friends helping at 10:00 the day the site comes open. We are ALWAYS too late. We start trying at 9:59 but we never have a chance. It comes up reserved everytime. Are we doing something wrong? We go to Recreation.gov.. Any tips would be really appreciated. Thanks
Have never really been camping, planning on tent camping here for Thanksgiving. Any tips, suggestions, etc. will be appreciated. Also, since it's a holiday and near the end of the camping season for Elkmont, will anyone else be there? Don't really want to be the only ones there. Would be a bit spooky. : -)
We are in G3 at Elkmont for 2 nights. Does this site have space or gravel for a tent? I know it is on the river, but does anyone have any specific pics of this actual site? I have grown up going to Elkmont, but can't recall if this site has tent availability.
I see there is no dumping station there so where does one dispose of grey water and are shower tents allowed provided I collect the grey water?
