We're thinking of booking the standard ocean view room through Westjet (they don't offer the deluxe room option or the boutique room options) and I'm wondering how serious is the noise factor is as I'm concerned about the noise complaints of a lot of people around the live band and dancing at the ocean front buffet/bar and the bar to the south of the complex. Can the noise be drowned out by ear plugs and white noise in the room or is it loud enough that those tricks won't work? I'm also wondering if anyone out there has booked via westjet vacations or other canadian travel company and not had the option to upgrade, if you were able to call the hotel and upgrade to the deluxe room so we could get a potentially better location? I'm concerned the standard ocean front rooms are the rooms closer to the noise late in the evening.
The resort and beach look lovely otherwise, I just like to get a lot of sleep on my vacation.
Be sure and book on the side of the hotel away from the Oyster Bar - a very noisy and rowdy bar on the left side of the hotel as you face the ocean. We were in room 2002 and it was very enjoyable.
Hi Marcie we also booked through Westjet ocean front for this upcoming February we stayed at the Playa Mazatlán in 2014 I wrote a review then we at that time upgraded to oceanfront when we arrived at the hotel and the noise was never an issue for us. We haven't been back before this because it usually sells out which is why I booked so early :) It is an old hotel with tons of character and the service was friendly my review that I wrote in 2014 pretty much says it all... hope this helps!
Friends who stayed in a room on the ocean front side did not complain about noise at all. The band in the restaurant did not play late into the evening while we were there, so I don't see that as an issue. However we had a suite on the west side of hotel. This was where we could hear the loud neighbouring night club into the early morning hours. Earplugs may work? Still a beautiful stay.
