I am planning to go there in May and wanted to know if it is doable to just rent a car and drive around Israel, and this is a must stop for me :) any tips and suggestion is appreciated
We did it with a tour group so they know what is safe & what is not. Most of the time we were on a normal bus but we also used an armoured bus in the dangerous areas. This was a safe area but Jericho was not & the 2 areas are not that far apart. My tip would be to speak to a local guide as things can change very quickly there.
Hey! Absolutely doable.
Just make sure you have your passport with you at all times, in the event that you have to drive through Palestinian territory/West Bank (where Jericho and Bethlehem are located).
Israel isn't very big and fairly easy to get around (most road signs are in English and they drive on the same side as the US).
If you are going to Bet She'An, be sure to go to the sites in that area; Qumran (dead sea scrolls), Masada and the Dead Sea. You could even try to get in a camel ride while you are in the region.
Hope this helps!
