What is the best way to get there from the tourist areas that minimizes walking?
The park's website gives travel tips. We tubed to Sloane Square and walked from there (about 15 mins). The TFL (or even Google Maps on a smartphone/ tablet) website will give you details of buses that pass to the east and west of the park. Do it 'live' and it will give you the best bus options for the next 15 - 30 minutes).
Get the train to queenstown road from Waterloo and then walk to the park from there.
We decided the closest train station is Battersea Park station but to get there you are likely to be coming from Clapham Junction or similar and this may well entail a round journey on the train to make it onto that line. Espeically from Central London.
The Zoo itself is actually at the North End of the park, along the river front, so a nice walk across one of the nearby bridges and then along the river front will see you arrive at the Zoo more easily.
We walked from Queenstown Road Train station and it took about 15 mins. Have a great time if you go.
I would recommend to use the transport for London website . They have a journey planner that allows you to edit preferences including minimising walking. One of the best ways to get here might be by the RB6 water bus to Cadogan Pier and then walk over Albert Bridge. Nearest tube is probably Sloane Sq but it would be about a 20 minute walk from there.
This depends which tourist area you are talking about. Go onto the TFL website. Go to journey planner. That will tell you all the ways to get there. Also you can do the same on Google maps. There are stations and buses right near the park. For example from Westminster it is 19 minutes on the train to Battersea Park station. From Harrods it is 19 minutes on the bus.
Enjoy your visit. I am going there today.
The number 1 way is jump in a Black Cab and get taken to the door. Failing that, a tube to Sloane Square is probably closest then a short walk south takes you over the river straight to the park. Not sure about bus routes, worth looking into when you get here. Hope you have a nice trip .
