Is this the place to get genealogy answers. I am seeking my mmigrant ancestors
Hi Annabelle, have only ever visited as a tourist with my German partner who grew up close to Mainz. Will ask her if she knows of where possibly to look. Will be back in touch if I have any news. However, they do have a large administrative office at the Cathedral and there's always someone there who can speak English. Why not give them a call. Good luck. T
You cannot find geneology info in the cathedral (aside from epitaphs of bishops), but if you know the names and dates of birth of ancestors, the Bishopric of Mainz may have old records on file - or the city offices in Mainz. There you need a starting point - name, dob, domarriage or similar - to begin tracing ancestors.
If you know they were baptized in that cathedral, someone there can probably tell you where the records are kept.
You should try calling them before you go there.
I used this search in Google
researching your catholic ancestors by traveling to germany
It returned a result at familysearch that looked promising. Tripadvisor won't let me put the link in this reply. Good luck
