Sue Fox - you recently stayed a full week in Marrakesh. I am planning on doing the same. was a full week too long? i am old, in great health, travel with my woman friend who is just like me. and we will be staying at Riad Aguerzame.
did you take any full one day excursions from Marrakesh?
any comments from anyone would be appreciated.
We only stayed three days and found that sufficient to see the city, so I would suggest if you are staying longer it would be worthwhile taking a trip somewhere, particularly the Atlas Mountains. We agree with all mcgillligan says and would recommend you have one meal at the raid. Aziz's recommendations were spot on, but be aware you won't get alcohol in the old town though Aziz supplies it with the meal. Don't miss the Majorelle Garden and when you get lost in the souks, anybody will offer to help and then expect cash.
My wife and I stayed about 4 days and enjoyed it fully. She is 70 and I'm 77, both of us in good health. We did a lot of walking. We did not take an excursion beyond Marrakech but did travel there by train from Tangier. I tried writing about our train ride but the Travel Advisor system didn't allow for that kind of activity.
A full week was just right - there is masses to see and do. We took a trip into the Atlas Mountains with a guide and ended up at his house for lunch - it was wonderful - Aziz, at the Riad can book this up for you. By the way the Riad is second to none, so helpful, so friendly - you really couldn't have chosen better. Aziz will also advise on restaurants - each one he recommended to us was superb. Marrakech is such a special place - the sounds, the smells, the sights - so different to anything we have at home. Enjoy your trip. You will love it.
