Yes there are rooms you can smoke in and there is shopping all over the place. Also there is a 7-11 at the front of the hotel along the road. As for large shopping complex/mall , not 100% sure but one will only be a tuk-tuk ride away.

You can get a taxi to the MBK shopping centre for 150b which is one of the largest in Asia.
