Hi, my husband and I are thinking about visiting KK NP this year (we live in Bangkok) and was wondering where you hired your guide from and which campsite you used? We to are keen wildlife watchers so are going to do a week visit to avoid any possible crowds.
We drove ourselves (from Bkk) and would recommend that. However, to drive past the first camp you need 4 wheel drive. The top camp is the best for wildlife and, if you're lucky, you'll see quite a lot. It's especially good for bird life.
If you want to see big animals, I'd recommend Kuibui\ri a bit further south where you're almost guaranteed to see elephants and gaur. Last time we went there, we spotted a dhole (Asiatic wild dog) and, again, lots of bird species.
We drove by ourselves to the upper camp on a day-visit. There are a few guides for hire up there, they all seemed pretty competent and nice. Since most of our party speak thai, language was not an issue. I couldn't see any crowds, but that may depend on the season.
The upper camp seemed pretty nice to stay for a few days.
