Xi'an City Wall (Chengqiang) Questions & Answers

Manila, Philippines

Hi. We plan to go to visit Xian City for the terracota warriors and the city itself. Coming from Beijing and going back, which is the best mode of transportation to take? Are there flights available or trains or bus? Would appreciate any feedback or recommendation. Best if you can include info like how long the trip will be, how much more or less is the fare price, etc.

Thank you in advance :)

We took an overnight train from Beijing to Xi'an and back to Beijing again. It took approximately 12 hours but it was no big deal because the train left Beijing at 7:30 pm and we were picked up at 7:30 am in Xi'an. It was nice to see all the lights from the cities and town along the way.........but the train was a little bit rough riding to sleep on. However.....I would do it again.

The correct answer is all three...buses are probably not the best option as it will take a long time...and non-Chinese are probably not used to the ride. Trains are good and fast and less expensive than flights. Train station is in the center of the city (walled city) while the airport of 1 hour plus away. But you can book a train in person or online via a Chinese booking agency only. If flying using a travel site will save you money. Good luck with your trip

Flying from Shanghai was short, but it was a hassle. My flight was supposed to land at 10:30pm and it landed about 3am. Thankfully my guide waited for me at the airport all night.

Hi Johnna, we travelled by China Southern from Singapore thru Shanghai. There must be flights from Beijing to Xi'an.

IMHO try stay at least a day. The Warriors exhibition is vast and well worth sometime to take it all in. I hate rushing. Lots to see in Xian. Take it a tad easier, you're on holiday, relax!

I paid for the souvenir booklet which will give you loads of info one may miss what with the crowds. You get to meet farmer who found the site, met Clinton etc.

Word of advice: CHECK YOU NOT VISITING ON CHINA HOLIDAY!

Another option is to take the overnight train, leave 7 pm and arrive next morning around 7 am. Soft sleeper ticket costs about 500 RMB. You can always travel by air too, about 2 1/2 hours.

Hi, we took the bullet train from Beijing to Xi'an with a first class ticket. Cost was 825RMB each as we booked through Travel China prior to arriving in China. It took us 5 hours travel time total and was a very comfortable and hassle free trip compared to air travel.
