We will be there the first week in October 2016, will there be any seals to see or will they be gone?
According to the docents who volunteer there on the weekends, there are seals there pretty much year round...
I think there will be seals there but perhaps not as many as in other seasons. I would find their website and contact the staff directly.
Mating is in late March with birthing after , they return to molt in April . I think that there will be some, but not as much as spring. Also check them out in Monterey and Santa Clara on the piers.
The elephant seals are there year-round, but the pups are usually present during the spring months.
I was there in June and lots of them. I was there yesterday (05 September) and saw not many of them left. Mostly the old/big ones. According to the brochure I have, October-November is the time for juveniles and yearlings to return. Like others said the seals are pretty much year around.
Populations are lower now, but there are always some there.
Always worth stopping on your drive along the coast.
