Best time of the day to go? We would be going ende of April - are they seen year round?
They are there year round. Weekdays are less busy. Also if you want to see sea lions without paying, they are everywhere at the Newport bayfront about 30 Miles North of sea lions cave. At the bayfront, they have taken over a few docks and you can get closer to them than at the cave.
Yes, sea lions are there year round. spring is best as they have young in cave. I went in September and cave was empty
Yes, the sea lions enjoy the cooler weather in the caves. But don’t worry if the numbers are low in the cave. They hang out on the cliffs right below the site and are just as entertaining.
If you can go in the morning --- good light for photography and smaller crowds. Nice people and good operation. We enjoyed it.
We went in August, I honestly can no answer your questions, but the should be in the cove for sure. Have a great trip.
April is a good time of year to go. Less crowded during the week. Bring a light jacket...caves can be chilly.
Yes they are MOSTLY year round.. they do leave to go to California around July for mating. The best place to see them is in Newport, Oregon.. go down to the shops, by the marina and they are all there. April is NOT a good time.. very rainy here in Oregon... Perhaps August, or September??
I would suggest that the "Tide" is important. I would say the rising near High tide would be best. That should give you a 4 or 5 hour window of which the Numbers will up ( along with the umm , noise "No, no I mean viewing) will be at the best.
Hope you enjoy our coastline, there is "Much" to see.
