Cloudy...they are inside the cave...they are a bachelor group that didn't find a mate...so they lolll around and eat and sun.Bring coats....even in full sun the wind off the ocean is @ 50 DEGREES and 10-25 mph
If you’re wanting to see the sea lions in the caves which I prefer, It’ll be good to call and ask if they are in ,or what time of day you are likely see some inside. Good sunny weather will get them outside. Bad weather will put more inside. It's wonderful when the caves are full, It still pretty neat when you have a small cadre staying inside. but for me it is disappointing when none can be seen inside. Remember to Bring binoculars for outside viewing. It is always worth visiting, But the best times is when the cave's are full.
Yes, weather should be good for the outdoor viewing point
The caves are inside.
Yes, I went in July last year and it was a great drive up the coastline. The seals were out on the cliffs because it was breeding season but we still got a great view and there were a lot swimming. There were a few inside the cave part so we saw the best all around. Loved it!
If you’re wanting to see the sea lions in the caves (which is much closer than on the cliffs), it’s best to go in winter. If you’d like to see them out on the water (aka like the photos I’ve posted), I think mid-July should be fine. It’ll be good to contact the facility just to check though. My husband and I visited during May, which was their mating-breeding season, therefore, they were mostly on the water/cliffs.
That is a great time to go. You will enjoy the coastal drive. Take your time and have fun...
yes but ask in the gift shop before paying and look at the tv screen to decide if want to go in. have fun make sure you have a camera that has a setting for dark without flash as no flash is allowed
I don't know. My wife was told that we would see lion caves, and neither her nor I observed one lion. At least we saw some seals which were a delight to see. Wierd.
Yes, have a blast!
It is free to stop and check out the shop. While in the shop you can ask about the sea lion population to view. When we went in September there were none in the cave but several on the rocky shoreline. If you have a good telephoto lens you may be able to get some good photos. The caves are so dark and no flash allowed would make it difficult to get any photos. You cant view the rocky shore or the caves without a ticket but you can check out the gift shop without a fee. You can ask about the numbers of sea lions to view and decide if you want to pay the fee to see them. Please be careful when crossing the street. It is a little scary as it is a corner and the traffic is a bit fast. If going in a south direction you may find some parking on the shore side.
