I am interested in visiting and just wonder how long the tours take. I'm interested in the Old State House Tour on the hour and the Boston Massacre tour on the half hour. The building looks beautiful.
Thanks so much for your inquiry and for admiring this wonderful 300 year old building! All tours take approximately 20-25 minutes and are well worth the time.
We only did the state house intending to just around ourselves but a guy came up to us to tell us he was starting the last free talk of the history of the state house in 15 minutes and to join him in the board room upstairs at 4pm? We did and it finished at 4.45pm and well worth doing we felt.
Hope that helps you.
Thank you to everyone for your wonderful replies.
I've been to Boston before on a tour and walked the Freedom Trail but only explored a few places incl Old North Church and Boston Common. I now have a good idea on what to expect at the Old State House which is on the Boston Trolley route......many thanks to all of you.
JFK library is definitely on the list too as is the Tea Party ships and museums, harbour cruise, Faneuil Hall, Fenway Park and another wander around the Common and Public Park.
I think Boston is such a great place to visit.
we were in Boston last May and used the T (rail) to get around and found it quite easy to use
The state House takes about 30 Minutes to look around and is worth a visit.
For the JFK Libary and Museum allow about 3 hours in total which includes getting there and back. Take the T to JFK/University of Mass Station which takes about 20 minutes, then bus from the station bus stop to JFK Museum. This takes about 10 minutes. We spent about 2 hours in the Museum. Also consider this to be worth a visit.
May I also suggest a walk in the Boston Public Garden in the late afternoon as the resident squirrels seem to come out about that time.
Plan for 60 to 90 minutes to enjoy the tours and museum.
We took the Old State House Tour. We stayed for the first half of the tour only, but that was pretty good, learning about how the Declaration of Independence was read to the people of Boston. Once they moved to another room, we decided to go see some other sites as we only had a couple of days in Boston. I'd say we were there for 30 minutes. FYI, the Old Time Trolley and other similar tour companies have a bus stop there. Site of Boston Massacre is right out front of the Old State House. It looks like a big man hole cover on the sidewalk.
I haven't taken the tour recently but, there is so much history in and around the Old State House that I believe you will find it a well worth destination. Just hop on the Freedom Trail and get a real sense of the Colonial, the American revolution and the birth of our nation.
Thank you for your prompt replies. That's a great help.
Have either of you been to the JFK library? Can you offer a similar guide for the time I should allow?
About 30 minutes for the tour, I think and allow a good 45 to an hour to look round the rest as the tours are specific to a subject.
