I am considering bringing my wife for our 18 year anniversary in February 2017 . Looking for a quiet place with beautiful views and romantic. I have read many of the reviews and I am wondering what you would recommend as one of the best upper level rooms. (name). thanks for any advice. Look forward to booking soon.
This visitor's opinion: go somewhere else. It will not be quiet--there will be weddings going on--possibly three on any given weekend. There are no views to speak of. You are looking up a mountain not down from the top. Other than an appallingly bad breakfast (no menu--they make one thing a day, take it or leave it) there is no food, no room service; just a small bar that opens at 5 or 6pm.
We loved both "Reflection" and "Horizon". Even a couple of the upper level rooms that some might consider a poorer view( part mountainside/part parking) proved nice with better balcony/hot tub layouts and a great view of a herd of elk once followed by mountain goats. You are on the side of a mountain, amidst a lot of trees so I think the entire property is relaxing ad beautiful.
The Dawn (l'Alba) was a fantastic room with great views. We loved this place.
The answers you've so far received pretty much cover the pros/cons. Despite some negative comments, we liked the place very much, and it's the nearest place adjacent to Rocky Mnt. Nat. Park. If you decide to go, definitely get one of the more expensive rooms located on the top floor.
Caveat: I'm not sure this is the ideal winter getaway destination. Weather/travel/road conditions could be tricky in Feb. (There was still snow at elevation in late May when we visited.)
Regarding the busyness with weddings, I have to disagree. February will be a slow month for weddings in this area & on this property. We were married in early March, and still not quite out of their slower season. It is also an adult-only property, so they regard tranquility very highly. As far as views, I have toured most of the rooms and stayed in one of the honeymoon suites in the attic (moon dance) and it was lovely, but faced more of the parking than the national park. The amenities are stunning, but if your sole purpose is a great view, this may not be the place for it. You are IN the mountains, more than looking upon them. But for service, and quality of experience in your stay, I HIGHLY recommend Della Terra.
The only view we saw was from the breakfast area and it was a small open area. We would not stay there again. Not because of lack of view but the overall experience.
I attended a wedding here and thought that the grounds were absolutely gorgeous. I did not stay at this resort. I would want to be aware if there were weddings taking place while I was there as that might restrict the grounds/areas you can be. I will say there are a lot of quaint cabins you can rent also if you decide not to go this route. Good luck and happy anniversary!
