how far is this from Sidari and how could we get there as a family of 5?
Sorry for taking so long to reply but we hope we are on time for your visit to Corfu .
Paleokastritsa is about 20 km from Sidari and would take about 40 minutes drive to get there.
There are two ways you can visit Paleokastritsa .
The one is by car and the other is by booking a day trip to the area . There are several companies in Sidari that organise this kind of trips .
The Aquarium is next to the main parking of the area just a few meters from where buses stop .
For any further information we would be happy to help you .
Hope you will have great time in Corfu!
As you can see from Google Maps it's about 21 kms (and they are twisty kms) away from Sidari - maybe nearly an hours drive. There's probably a bus between Sidari and Paleokastritsa but it will be slow and not much fun. I would hire a car for the day if necessary. I also doubt if the bus gets close to the aquarium because it is right out of town near the north beach. Personally I don't think the aquarium is worth a special visit. But Paleokastritsa itself is very pretty and is well worth a visit. It has several very well protected beaches. Often the wind in Corfu howls down from the North or Northwest and the beaches near Sidari can get unpleasant. If that happens the beaches at Paleokastritsa and Ag Georgios will be relatively protected and much more fun.
If you can book it via local day trips the you dont have to worry about collection and return journey but if you want to do independently you can buses from Corfu Town just make sure you know the last bus back.
Paleo is on the west side of the island. You can get there direct from Sidari, takes about 30 minutes. We booked an excursion which included paleo and a few other stops. The aquarium is just next to the bus station, small but well worth a visit
