Is it risky to go up with a motorbike?
How much does it cost to go up with a tuktuk (per person or per car) or a taxi?
Based on what I did yesterday. A grab taxi from the Furama hotel was 400baht (2 people = 200 each). Coming back I took one of the red truck taxis, it’s 30baht each if there are ten people in the truck. I negotiated 60baht each because there were only four people. The road up to the temple is steep and winding but in good condition when it is dry so a motorbike would not be too difficult for an experienced rider. For safety check the brakes for the journey down.
Risky? That depends of your skill on the bike.
I’m assume that you have driving license for motorcycle.
It could be a little bit risky downhill
I am sorry, we had our own car. I can see that I haven't given a good enough review about this site.
I think, Grab, similar to Uber in other parts of the world is the best method of transportation in Chiang Mai, There are many tour guide shops and tour guide drivers along the street in the mornings to take you to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Tuk Tuk, or tour guide price all depends on your negotiation skills. I payed 700 TBH to a guide on the side of the street to take me (the entire car) up the mountain, wait for me and back to Old Town. Renting a motor bike can be risky, if you do not have a Thai license. The police almost always have road check spots set up to check for foreign drivers. The road is very steep with many sharp turns. You can get up to the temple on a songthaew (red truck taxi) for 80 TBH per person each way. Road are quite large,
Motorcycle should be fine but it’s quite far from city center of Chiang Mai.
Now if you go there from early in a morning will be fine if you can comeback before darkness.
If not well it will be too risky, there’s no light outside in a mountain ......
Honestly can tell you how much it cost by Tuk tuk coz a cab pick up us at hotel.
Return way cost something like 500 THB if I don’t mistake .......
If you want I can give you a taxi driver phone number and line number.
He was really cool, speak good English, know well the city and around and not expensive .
