Barbara A's City Tips

  • Renting a golf cart to get around yourself is great fun! If this seems daunting, another option is to hire a taxi driver — just be sure to agree on a daily or hourly rate before you set off.
  • Prices differ depending on what type of ferry you choose to get to the island. Check the various options on offer at the docks.
  • As a local, you can show an official ID to get a discount on your ferry tickets.
  • You can get to Isla Mujeres by ferry from Cancun. Ferries leave from Puerto Juárez or Cancun hotel zone.

For diving families, MUSA is a unique experience, where you can admire and appreciate each of the underwater sculptures which now help to support the marine life of the area and the reefs. Each piece holds a different meaning, but it all depends on how you look at it personally, so be sure to leave plenty of time to compare notes after you emerge from this magical aquatic museum.

The Malecon is always a great family-friendly destination. Whether you feel like taking a walk morning — afternoon or night — it's lovely to watch and listen to the waves crashing upon the shore as you stroll along. Great for people-watching too, and seeing how daily life takes place on the island.

A great place where kids and grown-ups alike will have a blast learning about the marine life that inhabits the island. You'll be flabbergasted by the huge number of fish, seahorses and little turtles on display here at the Turtle Farm — and if you're lucky enough you might even catch some baby turtles hatching from their eggs and being released into the sea!

Although this museum is quite small, its picturesque setting makes its surroundings the ideal place to explore after an interesting dose of history. You can find a great beach and beautiful turquoise waters here, where you can take your pick of swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing, and stay long enough to take some memorable family snaps as the sun sets over this gorgeous beach.
