Chris O's City Tips

  • Keep in mind that Lisbon is a very hilly city. Wear comfortable shoes when hitting the streets and the trails.
  • Public transport is great in Lisbon. Indeed its trams and funiculars are among the city’s most popular attractions. Get the Lisboa Card for inclusive rides across the system.
  • As in any big city, it's not a bad idea to keep track of your belongings, especially in crowded and touristy areas.
  • The rainy season is late November through April.

Perched in verdant hills above the ocean, a short drive from Lisbon, Sintra is well worth a day trip at the very least. Its 'cultural landscape' of 19th century Romantic architecture makes this quaint village deserving of its UNESCO World Heritage Site title. For nature lovers, the Parque Natural de Sintra Cascais offers miles of wild coastline to explore, and excellent bird watching opportunities.
