Perfect for the whole family, the Melbourne Museum features exhibitions on Australian history, indigenous cultures, science, and the environment. Learn about Australia’s colorful history, while the kids get up close with some of the scariest creepy-crawlies in the country. With something for everyone, there’s no wonder it won the 'Best Major Tourist Attraction in Australia' title at the Tourism Awards in 2011.

Arguably one of the most gorgeous galleries in Melbourne, the National Gallery of Victoria contains some of the most beautiful art pieces in the country. Admire a vast range of both historic and contemporary pieces of art here — from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the pre-Columbian period, to European and British paintings dating from 1200 to the present day. With one of the most stunning collections in the country, the NGV is a must!

Established in 1841, this historical prison has been fabulously maintained, and today provides an incredible look into the harsh realities of Australian history. The prison tells the story of the infamous criminal, Ned Kelly, and another 133 hangings that happened between 1842 and it’s closure in 1929.

Located right in the heart of the city, the Melbourne Immigration Museum tells the stories of how Australian culture has changed over time, and the difficulties that many immigrants were forced to overcome as they landed on Australian shores for the first time. Melbourne has long been a destination for many immigrants from all over the world, and so this museum especially focuses on the popular ethnic groups and nationalities that are alive and well in the Victoria community.
