Jovel C's City Tips

  • Tipping is not a common practice in Singapore as a goods and service tax is already included in the bill. It is still welcomed however, should you feel you have received excellent service.
  • Smoking is banned in many areas, so be sure to smoke only in designated smoking areas otherwise you could find yourself facing a very hefty fine.
  • Do not take food and drinks on public transportation in Singapore, especially the train and bus, as you can be fined. Even in taxis, ask the driver if you can eat before you do!
  • The MRT (metro) is the most convenient form of transportation for getting around Singapore. Purchase a 1- to 3-day travel passes at the booth at any MRT station.
  • Family units in Singapore are hierarchical and different from the west - we still commonly refer to the parents of our friends as "aunt" or "uncle" followed by their last name.
  • Remember to dress appropriately without showing too much skin at places of worship.
  • Dress codes at fancy restaurants and bars are strict so be sure you are appropriately dressed! (No shorts, slippers, sandals, and jeans for men.)

A true hidden gem! With eight different themed rooms, from Resident Evil to Inception and Chamber of Secrets, this escape game is a definite must-do for non-stop fun. The rooms have various difficulty levels and are relatively affordable, with prices decreasing as the number of participants increases. Xcape Singapore is conveniently located in Bugis Shopping Center, which is a great shopping mall with restaurants, shops and a movie theater!

The Trick Eye Museum is an optical illusion museum for families, friends and couples to enjoy, and just have a laugh while exploring and doing silly poses. Pictures also serve as a fun souvenir from your visit to Singapore! The Trick Eye Museum is situated in Sentosa, so on top of the museum you'll find other very fun activity options here, such as riding segways and watching the sunset on nearby Siloso Beach. Have a fun-filled day at the Trick Eye Museum with your loved ones!
