When its time for a local breakfast, I think of MTR! MTR (or Mavalli Tiffin Rooms) are a popular chain of very traditional restaurants that offer amazing Bangalorean and also Mangalorean delights; the best dosa, idlis (savory cakes,) chow chow baths (a sweet and sour dish) and uthapams (pancake-style dosas) I have had.
One of the most popular attractions in Bangalore, the Lalbagh Botanical Garden is a delightful experience. Spread across 240 acres of land — and filled with many different kinds of plants, as well as a beautiful, serene lake — this is one of the most peaceful places in Bangalore.
A traditional rice dish beloved throughout India, biryani comes in more than 20 different varieties. Bangalore has Persia, its own special biryani style, and my favorite place to enjoy the dish is at Nandini Paradise. You'll find a great selection of items here, for vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
Corner House Ice Creams offers some of the best ice cream in the city. With an old-fashioned atmosphere and more than 15 flavors of creamy deliciousness, this is a great place for an afternoon treat. The sundaes here are to die for.
Forum Mall is a stylish shopping center where you'll find a great variety of national and international brands. This is a great place to people watch and take in the ebb and flow of the city, and there is a PVR cinema experience if you need some relaxation.
One of the most amazing views which you can experience in Bangalore is from the 13th Floor. Situated on the 13th floor of the Hotel Ivory Tower, this swanky spot offers a variety of delicious cuisines and 360-degree views of Bangalore. It's a great spot for a relaxing meal followed by tasty and creative cocktails.
Built in the early 19th century and later expanded in the early 20th century, beautiful St. Mark's Cathedral is largely inspired by 17th-century St. Paul's Cathedral. Its Roman arches and magnificent dome are stunning, and the interiors are adorned with intricate carvings, elegant woodwork, and gorgeous stained glass. This is a peaceful spot to start off your day with a healthy dose of beauty.
An iconic temple that showcases a gigantic, 20-meter (65-foot) statue of Lord Shiva, this temple is a fascinating spot whether or not you're a Shiv devotee. The Shiv Mandir Temple also teaches you a lot of about the history of Lord Shiva — there are writings on the walls of the beautiful caves.
Every time I visit Bangalore, I always go to Toit. One of my favorite places in the city, the brewpub offers a great variety of really yummy food, awesome drinks, and amazing desserts. They even brew their own beers, which are really worth trying.
If you visit TOIT, then you must visit it's neighboring desert heaven, the Cupcake Company! With a wide variety of traditional (Plain Jane and Death by Chocolate) and unique (Pineapple Express and Custard Crumble) flavors, this spot can satisfy every sweet tooth.
One of the most happening streets in Bangalore, Commercial Street is bustling day and night. This shopaholic's dream is lined with antique shops, bookstores, and all manner of apparel and accessory stalls. If you're looking for some truly unique items to take back home, this is the place for you. There is a lot of yummy street food too.
Located away from the city on the Mysore Highway, Rasta Cafe is much quieter than the city itself. For those who love long drives and sheesha (hookah,) this is the place for you. Sheesha is banned in many areas of the city, but here you can enjoy it alongside tasty food and drinks.
Located in the happening area of UB City, Skyye Lounge offers great views and amazing food and drinks. The place has a live DJ on the weekends, making for a great dance party.
One of the only places that is open very late at night, Hotel Empire Restaurant is a perfect place to find some sustenance after a long night of partying. The kebabs here are amazing! My friends and I always come here after a night out to enjoy great chicken tikkas and mutton kebabs.
Church Street Social is one of my favorite bistros. It's always pretty busy, but the service is great, and the atmosphere is lively and fun, with great music and excellent food. The vibe is urban-chic (think exposed brick walls,) and the menu features creative dishes with fun names, such as the Elvis Presley French Toast. This is a great spot for a big brunch or a delicious dinner.
The ISKON Temple is one of the most famous temples in the city — perhaps in all of India. Located in the north of Bangalore, this architectural delight is dedicated to Lord Krishna and his beloved Goddess Radha.
Orion Mall is a very well designed mall that offers a variety of high-end and local brands. I love the lake area outside the mall, which is a great spot to relax and watch the comings and goings.
Loft 38 is a great lunch spot with a rustic yet sophisticated ambience. It has a trendy, party vibe, with fantastic food and fabulous drinks and desserts.
A vast fun house, Amoeba offers family-friendly activities such as bowling, racing, and video games.
Located on the 31st floor of the World Trade Centre Building, the High Ultra Lounge offers breathtaking views to go along with amazing food and drink. This is a trendy spot where you can come for dinner and stay for great DJ sets.
