Mumbai is a friendly city for all type of travellers. It is geography has a North - South alignment. The best way to travel on a week days is to hire a tourist cab to move around. Public Transport like buses and suburban trains or 'locals' as they are called here are crowded in one direction. For example in the mornings, most people travel north to south and vice-versa. For a 1-day trip one can cover South Bombay or SoBo, which is downtown and the oldest part. From your place of stay, reach the Gate Way of India by 0800hrs. Spend 1 hour walking around the monument and along the sea-face. The Hotel Taj Mahal is just opposite. Have breakfast at any of the restaurant in Colaba. Next, Jehangir Art Gallery Kala Goda. After a light lunch nearby, ask the cabbie to take you to Flora Fountain and then visit the Victoria Terminus and the Rail Museum. If you like to shop for branded goods there are several shops in the Fort Area and the oldest multi-brand show room is the Akbarally's where prices are fixed but 'Sale' is there all through the year. If you are good at bargaining, take a look at Fashion Street. You can start at 50% of the quoted price and settle deal at 60 to 65% at a 'Gentleman Price'. Have snack at any small restaurant by about 1600hrs and drive back before the peak hour traffic starts. Ask the cabbie to tale you via the Marine Drive to you destination Best time of the Year to visit Mumbai is December to February-March.
