Rest assured, Mumbai ( Bombay ) is a city of strangers but no one will look at you as a stranger unless you behave like. Good Hotels & Restaurants available at most of the tourist spots. A planned itinerary will be helpful to make the trip more enjoyable. Gateway of India, Taj Hotel, Elephanta Caves, Colaba, Museum, Jehangir art Gallery, Marine Drive, Hanging Gardens and many more spots including Juhu Beach should be covered in itinerary. Special advice to visit commercial places of Mumbai like Crawford Market, Lohar Chawl ( Electrical goods), Princess Street ( Pharmaceuticals), Lamington road ( Electronics) , Bombay Stock Exchange to have touch of Marwari, Gujarati, Sindhi, Marathi, Bohri business culture. Moreover don't give the miss to famous Mumbai Dabbawala in the local train carrying lunch boxes from Homes to Work locations. Dabbawalas' are accredited with Six Sigma Black Belt for error free performance. Mind it, owner of a British Airlines travelled in luggage coach with these Dabbawalas at the time of inaugural First Flight from Mumbai to London.

OmprakashMulchandani's City Tips

  • A thrifty traveler should buy 3 or 5 days season ticket to travel in local trains. 5 Days, 3 Days First Class ticket costs Rs 510/-, Rs440/- respectively.
  • Bombay Dabbawalas' in action can be seen at Kurla, CST, Churchgate. Peak hour travel in the local train for a tourist is a big NO-NO for tourists or new one to city.
  • Travel in Mumbai local train is strongly recommended with precautions to safeguard pocket in non-peak hours only.

King George V landed here in 1911 and last British soldiers left from this Arch of Gateway of India after independence of India. Enjoy boating from here. War vessels are anchored about 5 to 8 Kms away from shore. Beautiful view of Boats, vessels and Search/ Light Tower ( little away from shore). Different vendors of spiced Peanuts, Idli, which every tourist may not like. Pride of Indian Hotels, Taj Palace is just opposite it. You can sip tea / coffee over there and if lucky you can have a view of Gateway of India and Boats from window.

Many times, I have visited this place, earlier when Searock Hotel ( ITC Group) was existing ( now Annexe of Taj Lands End). Access to fort & Seashore was not that easy as is now. cleanliness is another which use to be missing earlier. One can view Bandra WorliSea Link, Arabian Sea. Closer to it is amphitheatre where I have seen many Live concerts: Jagjit Singh, Daler Mehndi, Kiron Kher, Sonu Nigam, Ila Arun .... A program organised by The Times of India: Lead India. But last visit was recently few days back. While going to Bandra Fort one can see Mannat, house of famous Shah Rukh Khan about 800 meters before.

Have visited this temple decades back but this time in the month of November 15. Went there to see other attractions of temple premises i.e. Restaurant & Marriage Hall. Long ques was there for meals / lunch being Sunday. Cost Lunch was near Rs 400/- per Thali / person. All ingredients of Lunch fried in Pure / Shudh Ghee. One should taste the food here. Hall for marriage was also good but found its ceiling at the lower height, moreover was difficult to get the right person for query regarding booking of Hall etc. Temple is really beautiful. I went there from Vile Parle, Taxi Car had to be parked about one Km away viewing narrow road approach & traffic.
