The Napa Valley is renowned for producing some of California's best wines, but it is also an area of exquisite beauty, gently arching from Napa in the south to Calistoga in the north. In between, attractive small towns, myriad wineries, and vast vineyards huddle beneath the forested ridges on either side.

Nick E's City Tips

  • Tipping for a sit-down meal conforms to the American norm of 15 - 20%.
  • Many wineries have quite sophisticated art galleries and other delightful attractions.
  • Check whether your tasting fee will be refunded if you buy some wine.
  • Very few wineries in Napa offer complimentary tastings, and the fee can be quite high. Prepare accordingly.
  • The only way of realistically visiting most wineries is by car. Be sure to car pool with a designated driver to truly enjoy the wine tasting.
  • Napa Valley has limited public transport options, with the VINE bus system operating a fairly skeletal service six days a week, and no options on Sundays.
