Madison S's City Tips

  • Most casinos have a players club, which is generally free to join. Join up if you decide to gamble, to earn a few credits and other member's perks.
  • Remember, The Strip is quite long, and you may bounce between hotels! Wear comfortable shoes and if you plan to dine/club somewhere nice later, do a quick change beforehand.
  • If you see a costumed character or Elvis impersonator, don't take a photo of them unless you are prepared to 'tip' them for it.
  • The Strip has a number of free shuttles and a monorail. However, as destinations are very specific, you may be better off buying a 24-hour bus pass if your hotel isn't a hotspot.

When visiting Vegas, The Strip is the gateway to all the city's best in action and entertainment. Flanked on both sides by hotels, casinos, bars, and clubs, the four miles along the south side of Las Vegas Boulevard is a sightseer's paradise. By foot, take to the wide sidewalks and pedestrian bridges to view the outdoor shows at the Mirage and Bellagio, or just enjoy the dazzling skyline, roller-coaster and pyramid-studded. You can get some of the best deals in town as a bevy of ticket deals, entertainment discounts, and club promoters vie for by-passer's attention. Or, choose to see it in rapid-motion by hopping on a free shuttle between resorts, or grabbing the monorail to save your feet some effort while still feasting your eyes on everything Vegas has to offer.

    Tips
    • The Strip also has its own monorail, with ports located behind hotels such as the Bellagio and Paris Las Vegas.
    • If you prefer to use a bus to get around, buying a 24-hour bus pass is the cheapest and easiest option, if you're planning to take multiple trips along The Strip.
    • The Volcano outside the Mirage Hotel explodes every half hour after 5pm (with the exception of 7:30pm.) It is free to view from out front of the resort.
    • The Strip is especially crowded on weekend evenings, so be sure to prepare for congestion if you're heading out.
    • If you're traveling in a group, be sure to board shuttles with someone who has their key handy, as occasionally this is required to board a free hotel shuttle.

First up for a tour around The Strip is the beautiful Ballagio hotel, modeled after the township of Lake Como. With stunning outdoor fountains, a large casino floor, and dining options aplenty, visitors have a lot of choice. However, the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens are not to be missed. The lobby with its glass ceiling hand-blown flowers hints at what is to come; the garden is a little oasis wonderland, with ponds of koi fish, artistic flora, and even a charming carousel hidden away among the flowers. Changed each season to incorporate new features, from live sculpture to resplendent waterfalls, the conservatory is a must-see.

The artificial lake that sprawls out across eight acres in front of the Bellagio is home to its famous dancing fountains. Expertly choreographed jets of water are synchronized in their movements to lights and music, creating a water-work extravaganza. The show (including the music it is set to) is different nearly every time over the day, and tunes range from Broadway hits, to classical and opera. It is free to watch for anyone strolling The Strip, and there are many great vantage points to catch it from.

    • Sometimes deals run that allow you to buy a two-attraction pass to the Eiffel Tower and the High Roller (the big ferris wheel) — ask at your hotel.
