Had a very pleasant stay. Friendly staff and good atmosphere in bar. Room was very comfortable, clean with tea/coffee,small fridge. Breakfast was good and hot , though there was a little wait as there were quite a few golfers in. Enjoyed and would definitely stay again.
We stayed here for two nights, the hotel was exceptionally clean. The bedroom and bathroom especially, which we were very pleased about given that a peaceful nights sleep is important.
However the breakfast was not to our standard, when we called and mentioned we were both vegetarian we were told that we shouldn't worry as they have plenty of options. The first morning there were no vegetarian sausages despite me calling especially - we ended up eating beans tomatoes and hash browns.
Subsequently we let reception know that we weren't happy and the following day they made up for it and had gone and got some vegetarian sausages - one each to make up for the meat option: sausages, eggs & bacon. I cannot say that we were impressed with the breakfast at all! We have stayed at a lot of places that offer a vast range for vegetarians - one veggie sausage each seems very poor.
Clearly the restaurant and the hotel operate separately, but we did not appreciate being told that we would be catered for when clearly that was not the case.
Overall the hotel was amazing, the location, the atmosphere. Just a all round perfect place to relax (if you arent fussed about vegetarian breakfasts)
The staff adhered to the social distancing practices, masks worn by all staff in the restaurant and at reception. There is plenty of hand sanitisers around and they take bookings for breakfast/dinner in order to ensure there is no over crowding in the restaurant.
My partner and I went away for what would have been our engagement party, we sent an email prior to going and was welcomed with the room like this! It really made our night. We had amazing service, polite and friendly staff and a very tasty breakfast in the morning. Would highly recommend. Very close to the sea and easy to find. The room was spotless and a lot bigger than we thought, Thank you!
We booked to stay in a superior double in this golf and spa hotel as a birthday and valentines treat. I must say that I have a very different view of what comprises 'superior' than Dudsbury Hotel obviously do.
I'll start with the positives - the spa was lovely. The staff in the spa were very friendly and spending a day relaxing in there was perfect. It is quite small so expect to take your turn in the gym, pool, steam room, jacuzzi etc. The changing rooms are not very nice at all though - tiny, cold and with horrible matting on the floor.
We booked so that my husband could play golf and unfortunately the course was closed. Obviously this is weather related and no fault of the venue but it did put a dampener on our trip.It was also a little surprising as the weather was lovely and sunny on the Friday.
The food was fine in the bistro for the evening and although we had booked a table, there wasn't really any need as it was not busy at all. The breakfast wasn't anything special, the cooked was ok but the continental selection was very poor. A few mini boxes of cereal, a few yogurts and some processed sliced bread under a bit of torn clingfilm.
The room was definitely not superior. It was located outside of the main building with a narrow walkway that was unlit at night. There are a couple of security lights that came on as you walked past them but this didn't feel sufficient. Despite there being a fridge in the room, the milk was UHT (a pet hate). Surely you could pop a pint of fresh in. And in a superior room I would expect more than a couple of tiny tea cups, a tiny kettle and a sachet of freeze dried coffee.
The room also has a problem with nasty, large flies. Given this was in February, I dread to think what it would be like in the summer. They seems to come from the bathroom but with all windows closed I'm not sure where from. The drainage in the shower tray was also an issue.
The overall decor of the hotel is almost worth popping in to see on its own - the hotel that taste forgot!!! I honestly don't know who designed the place but lets be kind and call it 'eclectic'.
We decided to check out a night early due to various issues - including but not limited to those written above - but found all the staff were really good and helpful so they are not the issue at all.
Using the published Satnav postcode we found the Golf Club with no difficulty. Parking is plentiful with what appears to be an overflow car park to the rear of the main property. We Booked the accommodation for one night through Booking.com. Reception was trouble free. Friendly staff (Abi and Lindsey) explained the layout, confirmed that a table was booked for dinner, and we were shown to our room.
The room was in a block that required us to walk about 50 yards outside the main building. Room 22 is large, spacious and well lit. An en-suite bathroom offers a big bath (jacuzzi style), a shower cubicle, toilet and 'His and Hers' wash basins. All areas of the bath and shower room were immaculately clean.
The bed is super kingsize and comfortable. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space is provided, along with a TV, and kettle with the makings for a cuppa.
We were not aware that the meal in the evening was an Oriental buffet. Initially we were offered menus that were limited to Bagettes, sandwiches etc; not a full dinner menu. Sue told us about The Buffet that proved to be adequate to our needs; she was most helpful and ensured that some of the dishes on the buffet were replenished for us.
Dudsbury was in a location close to our primary destination in Ferndown where we attended a Seminar. We will stay at Dudsbury in the future should we pass that way again. Our thanks to the staff for their help and advice.
