Even though this hotel has a beautiful location and very well taken care of green area the rooms inside are a little dirty and outdated. I loved the little chapel, the dairy farm, the view of the lakes, bougainvilleas, etc. Not so much our room.

What a fantastic spot. as I was driving up to the property, I thought I was transported somewhere in Europe. the hotel had swiss chalet-style buildings, a wonderful hotel with multi flags flying in the wind....... and to top everything off.... a miniature train that took you up to the top of the property to a private circular restaurant, that revolved completely around every 30 minutes.

The views were incredible, and the whole property was built in the late 80's, right on the Arenal lake, with great views of the Arenal volcano. With all that was going on around the property, wouldn't you know that they also had a fully operational dairy on-site. Truely a wonderful experience.

The rooms were great, and very well appointed. You could stay in the main hotel, or get a larger suite out on the property in one of the houses that had roughly 4 per building. The owners were gracious, and the food was authentic. Strudel, weinersnitchel, and more. A must visit....even if your just there for a bit to ride the train up and have lunch. Don't miss this one.

Stayed in apartment, up the hill from the front desk. The apartment has a great view of the lake with a terrace. The living room looks right out onto the lake. It's a million dollar view. Apartments are a three min walk back to the front desk. Although we didn't use it much, there was a full kitchen complete with pots and pans. There was a small refrigerator that we did appreciate. After staying in tiny hotel rooms for about a week, we appreciated the space the apartment afforded us. It has high ceilings, a kitchen, living room and two bedrooms. One bedroom had two twin beds and the other had a king size bed. The living room also has a futon like couch with a trundle bed underneath. We also took the train to the revolving restaurant. The food was very good and the prices were fair. The staff was great. I forgot my shaving razor and the next day, one of the waiters, (I think his name was Julio) returned to the hotel with a razor he brought from town. He didn't even charge me. Breakfast was complementary. It included gallo pinto and eggs and was very good. The train ride up to the revolving restaurant was great. The staff was all very nice. There were some ants in the living room, but this is God's country, what do you expect. We also had a messy two year old leaving crumbs everywhere, so that probably attracted the bugs too. We did not use it, but the hotel had a very nice looking pool and Jacuzzi.
We did not swim in the lake, but we noticed that across the road there was a dock. My only regret is that we only stayed one night here. Everything was very peaceful. I speak Spanish well, so I can't comment about the English capabilities of the staff. I didn't use the internet, but my wife and her friend seemed to not have any trouble with it.

Room Tip: Get the second floor apartment with the view of the lake. The flight of stairs is worth it.

Loved my recent stay at Hotel Los Heroes. We immediately felt transported to the Swiss mountains upon arriving at the property. I traveled with friends so we rented a two bedroom apartment up the hill which had just incredible views in every direction and ample space for three adults and a toddler. The hotel was quiet during our stay as we were there during the off-season but the staff happily ran the train for us so we could dine at the rotating restaurant. We wound up with a private dining experience and amazing views of Arenal that were priceless.

The main restaurant on the property is highly recommended for dinner (try the fondue which was perfect) and they do a lovely breakfast which was included. Our apartment was spacious and well appointed. Some bugs but that's to be expected in this area of the country. (The two-year-old in our party was highly entertained by a visiting lizard, as well.) Our rooms were clean and tidy - old fashioned like a 1950's Swiss chalet.

Would absolutely recommend Los Heroes to anyone looking for a quiet mountain retreat. Location is fantastic - close to other tourist destinations but secluded enough to be peaceful. Loved the stellar service and great views.
