Very beautiful, quiet location. Comfortable rooms, clean and well cared for. The linen was pristine and the towels thick and soft. Our dogs enjoyed it there, too. Sadly the pool is not in working order but has been replaced by a plunge pool. The meal was good but rather expensive for what it was and certainly better than looking for an alternative. The wine was good and well priced. The owners were friendly and helpful and even posted on some clothing left in our room. Good for a stopover.
Booked Le Moulin Calme as a one off whist travelling through France. Had a quick look on-line for somewhere close to where we wanted to be and this place came up. Once you arrive in Luceau, it is not clearly sign posted but we managed to find it ok. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and will return.
This B&B may not be to everyone's taste as it is very quiet and tranquil and bit off of the beaten track, (no pub within walking distance) however it was very comfortable and clean.
Marie-Anise and Eric's English is very limited - and so is our French however this was not a problem and added a bit of fun to our stay! We were given a warm welcome and shown to our room which was up a flight of stairs at the end of the building. Lovely large clean room with en-suite, but note there is no TV in the room which didn't bother us. At night, in the dark we could hear the hooting of owls and could see the stars through the Velux ceiling windows.
The property is situated on the edge of a mill pond which you can walk around, with plenty of chairs and sun loungers dotted around the pond for you to relax on in the sun! There is a dinghy which holds 4 people comfortably if you wanted to relax and paddle through the pond! There are fish in the pond with ducks and swans. A covered swimming pool sits to one side of the pond, (the pool has a plastic poly tunnel like covering). There is also a sauna and steam room.
Our evening meal was a bit of a surprise as we could not read the menu - obviously as it was written in French! So each course was a surprise but a very pleasant surprise indeed. We enjoyed every course, e.g. fish and veg for mains, strawberry tart for dessert.
Breakfast, again served outside as it was very hot when we stayed here, was very French! (Croissants, bread, eggs etc).
The only thing I would say is that if you had very small children then this could possibly not be a suitable place to stay, as the pond is not fenced off.
My Dad and I stayed here in Sept 2010 (I know, it's a while ago, but it's only taken me five years to get round to writing this!!), and stayed one night. It was lovely. The food was excellent, cooked by the owner's wife, and the room was clean and quaint. I will certainly stay here again. Certainly.
The setting of the hotel is lovely, buried in the countryside beside a large pond. The grounds looked as if they needed a fair amount of maintenance. Our room was good with a sitting area which was just as well as the hotel did not appear to have a residents lounge. The evening meal well cooked but rather limited for the price. We had soup, a small fish with 3 boiled potatoes and a piece of tart.
We booked this hotel as it had good reviews on Trip Adviser and Alastair Sawdays.
However it seems that the original owners who achieved all the good reviews have sold, and the current owners took over in July. Whilst they may have plans to spend some cash, it looked as though nothing had been done since the last owners left. Everything looked rather sad, chair covers left out in the rain, sun canopy sagging off on one side, grass un cut. Madame was very attentive but did not seem to have much of a clue. There were some building materials stacked alongside under polythene but no one else seemed to be around. Food was OK but have had much better, and for the price €22 not good enough. Breakfast was a bit of a disaster too. I also found the rear wooden staircase access to our bedroom was very slippery when wet.
Upon check out we were advised that the credit card account had not yet been set up for the new owners so we would have to pay cash or we could phone our bank to transfer the money!
I hate giving bad reviews but the new owners are going to have to pull out all the stops if they area going to deliver the kind of experience that previous visitors seemed to have experienced.
